From a FORD CONTOUR....Either way I guess that was the only good thing that came on the car...Goes to show why you aren't putting in a 302:grinpimp:

This is one of my favorite threads keep up the great work! i'm soo jealous right now its unbelievable

Just pulled the trigger on a complete 5.3. Thanks for the spread sheet. Can't wait to hear how the first drive is. Is it getting close?

She's real close! I have the a new FORD cotour fan and the air box assy. So I should have it to the muffler shop this weekend. I'm glad the sheet helped out and can't wait to read your thread.

Ianitscared, have you used a "Mark's" adapter? Do they make one for the 5.3 vortec? How much more expensive is it? If I use one of those adapters I can save the expense of drive shaft changes right? I guess, bottom line, is it worth it?

What size exhaust will you go with. A single 3" looks cool, but probably not needed right? I have the maf 2 1/2" cat back set up. I think it should work pretty good and save a few bucks too. I am a long ways from that point though...

Oh man, so much to think about. this thread is a great source of info, thanks.

The Mark's adapter will cost more than the entire Downey setup on the sheet. and you still will need to buy a clutch, flywheel, etc. The expense of doing a driveline change is not as bad as you would think. If you don't have the means to change the orginal location the Mark's is great. I did speak to AA about it and the had some mating issues with the newer blocks. It may have been corrected but I played it safe.

The exhaust ran 2 1/2 off the headers and into a 3" pipe to a dual chamber flow master. It has a real nice throaty sound and allows for free flow. and it fits the original layout.

Best suggestion again though is call Mark's or AA and get the pricing and see if they have had mating issues still. Do the home work first and it will go alot easier.

The photo of the tranny coming through the tunnel looks pretty well centered. Sitting a little higher through the floor? But nearly the same place, right? Did you have to modify the rear cross member? I have the short tranny setup, what is your experience with moving those back? Do you just make a new one? Could I source one(crossmember) from a long tranny truck?

Thanks for your thoughts. I have limited space, not a lot of fabbing tools, and no engine swapping experience. So I am trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Kind of a stupid question, but I honestly dont know the answer...
When you take it to the exhaust shop, how do you get it there?
I mean, there is NO EXHAUST on the rig at this point right?
SO would you tow it, or just drive it like it is?
Sorry about this, bit Im am really curious how this would be done.

Great job!
I cant wait to get the cash so I can do mine!

I tow mine but try to have them running so it is easier on the guy's at the muffler shop. I could drive it since the muffler shop is less than a mile down the road but knowing my luck I would get a ticket:flipoff2:

Thought you might have changed your mind. Sell the bike yet?

Hey Shin: The tranny is 2 1/2 inches forward. I am moving the original tranny mount forward to compensate. The mount can be fabed from some tube steel( see similiar layout here https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=138298&highlight=paxildog

This one has the 4L60E. But the concept is the same. Not a problem changing them out and the tubing is cheap and to tack weld it not a big problem. I have the same problem with space which is why I try to have everything in place when I start that way it's clean and ready to go in when the old 2F comes out. The swapping doesn't require alot of tools and most basic mechanics sets will cover what you need. Cherry picker and a tranny jack are the only big items.

Another gets hooked eh... goods stuff. I remember saying the same thing a while back, but is nothing like it now !!! :)

Randy, everything seems to be in schedule I should be back to my swap in 2 or 3 weeks...

And yes keep posting them pixs.. threads like this one (and Philos1) is what turn the scales for me and jump to do my own swap...

Laters,

Great to hear that did you already send out the tranny? BTW I was looking at the radiator last night and it shouldn't be to hard to move the ports to the P.S side and make it look clean. Get the leg healed up and we'll be expecting to see some major progress. I bet if you spring for a good wrenching party you could get Philo's to turn a wrench again.:beer:

I'm there if the beer is there...

Nope, didnt change my mind...Just working 2 jobs to get ahead of the game again.
Im still trying to find time to get the bike registered so I can list it...
Its been a VERY BAD week for me.
The progress is looking great!
Thanks agian for the price break down. I really appreciate it!

Update she's ready to go for exhaust

I haven't had a chance to post the progress but she's ready for exhaust. I need to run the heater hoses and close up the interior but this is where it is at. I got the contour fan mounted and wired into the harness, the tach is back from redline and the air cleaner assy is in. Hope you like it so far.

Very cool you are making great progress. Are you going to keep the mechanical fan with the electric fan? If yes, why? I have run my 350 with a Vovlo fan for a while now with no problems.
