I have a 4x4 labs rear swing out bumper with the tire carrier and ladder. I would like to get a hitch mount motorcycle carrier to carry a small 250cc dual sport motorcycle. I don't worry about the weight. I will do airbags and springs in the rear. But does anyone know if a bike on a carrier like that will clear a tire mounted on the rear swingout?

Slee with dual swing outs, I didn’t have the ladder on at the time, but it still fits. That is a big pig KTM 530, I carry a Beta 300RR now with no problem.

Nice. Do you know what carried you are using and how you like it? I am considering a WR250R, KLX250 or the CRF250l. But I also consider some odd balls like xt225, TW200 and some others.

I forgot to mention that I put a receiver extension piece on the carrier to get it out past the tire. I don’t know the brand, I bought it used about 10 years ago.

i have a homemade one you can have if you figure out a way to get it, I live near Raleigh NC i have carried several bike up to a yz400 on it no issues at all. very solid i also use the safety chain loops on the hitch in conjunction with a couple turnbuckles to keep everything sung. i purchased a truck and sold the bikes, haven't used it at least a year. The 2x2 tube is 1/4" thick, it will support more then the tongue of your receiver.

The ramp is stored on the carrier also.

I use the ultimate mx hauler, solid design and the bike dosnt move, you would need an extension to make ti work with the swing outs. its been fine with the xr 400 and the tcx 310

Thanks. I will be back in Atlanta in few weeks. I will still be pretty far from Raleigh NC. If I travel that way I will take you up on that.

no worries see if anyone is heading to logan's run at Uwharrie in sept. (mud ship)

I had thought about using a few ratchet straps the way Fourtrax did to pull things snug. But I had also thought about taking it a sep further and running straps UP to the rear corners of my roof rack. even if I just snugged them nice with 25lb weight on to each corner that takes about 50 pounds off the trailer hitch. Also it should take a lot of "weight" of by eliminating pouncing on the hitch. What are your thoughts about that/

Happy to see so many LC owners like playing in the dirt with 2 wheels as much as 4. :)

I've got a wr250r that I'll have to carry eventually. I broke my wrist and can't ride for a year. My plan for next season is to run support in the lc for the group I ride with. I'll add a carrier just in case someone breaks down. Thanks for the tips

that is why i use the turnbuckles. the carrier is part of the cruiser when installed. almost no movement. ant with the 1/4" thick receiver you can slide in a second carrier and haul 2 bikes if you wanted and your hitch could support the tongue weight.

KTM 250SX here! I use a B Dawg double motorcycle carrier. For my and my son’s bike (XR100) B-Dawg BD-Double Double Aluminum Motorcycle Carrier. I think the single version of this was what KSJ85 shared

I used air bags on the rear springs to level mine out.

Not as quick to load as a pickup, but it works well and works for us.

How much do those bikes weigh each?

I had an old 1978 IT400, but it was a 500 LB bike......

The few I am looking at weigh a little more than the pure dirt bikes others post up. I would say around 290-300 wet. I have considered a dr650 which is a fat heavy dual sport and it is around 370 wet. These weights are super low for what street bikes weight.

My rc51 is mildly stripes down and is still around 435ish. I don't know if I would put that on a hitch carrier.

It would be fun to do the TAT like that. I think I could talk my wife into driving the truck.

Every year I drive out and spend 5 months in WY and MT in the 80. I don't even think about gas cost anymore. If I did I would just cry.

First year i made the drive was when gas was at it worst. Almost $4 a gallion. That was a killer.

With the five of us, we just look up the cost of plane tickets, then the gas money seems cheap! :)

A ratchet strap over each tyre, one end on the bike rack and the other down to the bumper.
