There is a similar thread in both the 100 and 200 Classifieds Sections, makes sense here too. These trucks are changing hands at a rapid rate these days, having consolidated live market data is a nice thing for both buyers and sellers.

If you have recently bought or sold an 80 series and are comfortable sharing the details, post it here.

$15-25k in my opinion for a baselined 80-series with no rust and a few upgrades. Less for FJ80’s vs 95-97 FZJ80’s.

In fact I have saved a few people who didn’t know Cruisers who thought FJ80’s are the best. They passed on those after I gave them some info. To me FJ80’s are best suited for v8 swaps but I am sure @Marco Lau would strongly disagree!

My comments above were meant for general info in this thread about current value of LC's and what it might take to bring any 80 Series back to good condition overall.

IME to fully baseline a neglected 80 Series (most anything not owned by an OCD Mud member) in the US so it's a reliable vehicle to safely take on a long trip is closer to $3000-5000 and not necessarily all done immediately. But then again the cost could be double that, depending on what it needs, who does the work, their level of OCD, what surprises are found once work starts, ---.

Realistically though IMO/IME it's impossible to put a true value on anything without inspecting it in person.

If you want to pay a shop it's gonna be about 10k for head gasket, axle service, tie rod ends, and a couple small knit knacks. I know because I just did it at a forum sponsors shop who's quite reasonable per hour (southern us).

I did suspension myself which was another 3k or so, plus ~1800 for rubber and another 5 in armor/winch.

I'd just say about 20k to go from neglected to driver. 10k if you have time/skills to diy everything.

I did weather tech mats, some cherry wrecked truck cloth seats, and a diy steering wrap to save cash, interior can add up fast.

The thing is they limp really well. Their design is so robust that they’ll keep trucking where the equivalent IFS Tacoma would be stopped in its tracks. I bought a similar 97 for around 6k with well over 200k miles, and all I really had to do was fix some leaking heater hoses. I only traded it cause I wanted a manual 4x4, but I honestly regret it in hindsight.

I see what you’re saying, but the build quality and robustness of the Cruiser is such that you don’t get as many “ticky tacky” issues like driveshafts, axles, etc. IME the main thing is just keeping up with leaks and replacing hoses before they bust.

Hello, im looking to buy (it was posted here on IH8MUD) and im in search for your guys opinion, its a manual 1990 1HD-T LHD, with 136,729 miles, it has some "minor" issues, a leak on the AC but overall looks pretty clean, the price i got is 29k, i do have the funds and have been looking for a while, it will be my first LC and i dont know much about the motor, ive been researching and all seems good, i haven't payed anything (I wont till i see it in person) but was wondering what you guys know about that model and if anything am i getting ripped off ( in all honesty i kinda dont mind, however i know it is a lot of money especially for a 34 year old truck), i really apreciate your guys help and wish you the best!

Edit: i forgot to add, i know im not just paying for the stock truck, it has some nice additions, like new OME suspention, rear bumper, and since it is a LC from Paraguay i know i might me paying a premium for the "rarity" of it, i dont know, thx for the help.

ps. i dont know if this is the wrong thread for this, if it is ill just make a separate post, thx for the assistance.

There's a fab/mod shop in Arkansas that specializing in modifying Land Cruisers, and they bought a bunch that had come from Paraguay. Just FYI, like many places overseas, Land Cruisers are driven hard, and put away wet in Paraguay, so expect a well worn vehicle.

Always concerned when the same truck keeps popping up, however they encourage people to see in person and list a phone number, good indicators it is legit. I would pull a carfax report just to make sure there are no title surprises.
