There is a similar thread in both the 100 and 200 Classifieds Sections, makes sense here too. These trucks are changing hands at a rapid rate these days, having consolidated live market data is a nice thing for both buyers and sellers.

If you have recently bought or sold an 80 series and are comfortable sharing the details, post it here.

I'm stating mods in general do not add value dollar for dollar.

A $300 panhard bracket from she doesn't add $300

My dvs bumper and winch don't add $4000 in value to my land cruiser.
They're not mall mods. Or useless.

I'm not new to modified rigs, wheeling, camping, or buying used vehicles.

A rig with a ton in modifications and a complete disregard for maintenance is a massive red flag.
It doesn't have a disregard for maintenence. I never said the mods are dollar for dollar. They never are, there are just a ton of good mods on this truck. I figured that would ruffle some feathers.

Better make sure and not buy it then lol.

Leaking every single fluid known to man is a lack of maintenance

And I'm not buying it. I have a low mile diesel land cruiser.

This fully restored, 1995, triple locked 80 just sold on BaT for $93,500. And that doesn’t include the %5 dealer fee.
I did not read the BAT description of the ‘95 80 as being fully restored. I understand that 80 was a one-owner, 59,000 mile time capsule. I believe the vehicle was original with the exception of some dry-ice blasting of the undercarriage and replacement of hoses and plugs. The paint (see paint meter readings in photos), interior, etc. are all original.

It's weird Carfax says 1 owner... But the owner bought it in 98

My mistake, a better term would probably be “All original”, assuming they used all OEM for the parts that needed replacing.

Wish I was smart enough to know this thread existed when I sold my 97 LX!

Is it just me or have 80 prices dropped significantly and 1st gen Tacomas and 3rd gen 4Runners caught up in price? I’ve recently noticed 1st gen Tacomas going for 15-20k and land cruisers selling for 8-12k again..

It does seem High mileage 80’s needing lots of maintenance and paint are the most plentiful on the market and prices are back to reasonable range, ready to have another $8-12k spent on baselining after the purchase.

Nice paint, decent mileage, and good maintenance history rigs are in short supply and still strong performers in the market.

I don’t think Tacomas are worth any more. It may just be easier to sell a rougher one due to the utility of the truck bed; they make nice little work rigs. The kind of people looking for an old Land Cruiser usually want a clean/collectible one, so rough examples can end up sitting for a while, unless it’s well under 10k.

Yep, $8-$10k pick up trucks are easy to justify!

I can remember when Chevy 73-87 Chevy K10’s and 2nd gen Toyota Trucks hit $3500 and the they were like money in the bank and pretty plentiful, buy them, use them and sell them when you’re done for a little profit, Tacomas are they same today!
With 4Runners, there are enough teenagers to keep that market supported for a few more years!

I'd say prices are dropping, especially if people are desperate.

I called, and just missed this one. Don't know any details other than it had less than 200K miles. Was in California.

Need help pricing my LX. I was thinking 13-14 but would like feedback there.
Completely turn-key. 340k. Don't think it's ever been rebuilt, valve stem seals are old/cause exhaust smoke after sitting overnight. Top it off with a quart every 1500-2kish.
ARB bumper and lights. White knuckle sliders. OME 850J/863J springs/whatever the OME longer shocks are. Delta 3" radius arms/3" rear panhard correction bracket. Dobinsons front adjustable panhard.
Paint is pretty decent for age except for the hood where I accidently blasted some off with a pressure washer/usual trail pinstripes. Interior is ok, cracked dash and drivers seat has tears. Replaced the seat gears/also has the land tank extended seat brackets on both.
Mechanically restored. Cooling system (radiator/water pump/fan clutch/hoses/blah blah blah) is completely new. Power steering system is completely new (rebuilt original steering box w/ 105 sector shaft). Front axle seal/birfs serviced. Top and front of engine resealed (valve cover gasket, dizzy o ring, oil pump cover, crank seal, blah blah). All fluids are new. Only thing I haven't touched much is the rear axle, which is fine.
Only issue is CDL doesn't work. For whatever reason the actuator isn't getting power. I've replaced every transfer case switch/CDL transmission relay/have a spare 100 series actuator w/ adapter harness, but the original actuator still works. Has pin 7 done and the CDL button in dash.
I'm serious about it being turn key. Done all the smaller things most overlook like the solvefunction mirror fix, lock actuators, new window runs, replacing the piezo buzzer for keyless, etc blah blah.

Fix the cdl. That's not a small thing. (Does the dash light come on?).
Then you could probably get close to your asking.
14 is high to me even after its fixed.

GLWS

Even with CDL fixed. Your asking price is a little high. 340k miles with original HG, topping off 1quart every 2k miles......non locked and an LX vs LC badge.
10k would be fair but 13-14k is GLWS

GLWS of the LX. I took me the better part of a year to find a buyer for my 1997 Land Cruiser at $7500 last year. ARB bumper with winch, 4” lift professionally installed, 35” tires, center diff lock selection mod, rear locker, total sound system upgraded. It had a CEL that inconveniently came on a few months after I put it up for sale. That was a significant issue for people in the populated areas of CO that have to deal with Aircare Colorado.

I had a bunch of tire kickers and low ballers offering $2000-3000. It was very frustrating. I hope you find the right buyer.

Thanks for input. Looks like I'll be keeping it- only wanted to downsize into something smaller like a v8 4runner. Would've been a shame doing all this maintenance and not being able to enjoy it.

Looked at your ad, the bed liner/flareless would've turned me off but man that cloth interior. Wish I saw it when posted.

~12 years ago, my FJ80 HG failed. I cleaned and checked the head. bought a laundry list of parts, then while cleaning and preping the block, I noticed pitting by #1. The project stalled and has been sitting in the garage since. I have to many other thing going on and it is time to move on.

Stock suspension.

Triple locked with pin7 mod and dash button

Body is in good shape. Paint (red) is rough(clear coat peeling and some brush scratches on the doors) no rust though.

Interior(original 28 year old) is not bad but not good. The original seats are pretty dry

Odo is 207,xxx

block is currently out

location: Sacramento

Is asking $10k too much?

I would say yes-too high for a $10k non running project. Was the fluids and fuel drained prior to "storage"? No mention of other goodies such as mods. Looks like an OBD2 rig though.
Prices are not pandemic prices anymore. The market had reset itself and prices are not crazy. Some turnkey w/high miles FZJ80s are still asking way too much and unfortunately its not a seller's market anymore.
