There is a similar thread in both the 100 and 200 Classifieds Sections, makes sense here too. These trucks are changing hands at a rapid rate these days, having consolidated live market data is a nice thing for both buyers and sellers.

If you have recently bought or sold an 80 series and are comfortable sharing the details, post it here.

This is my 80 and I’m not sure exactly what to price it at. I got a few offers off the street for 35k and 40k a few months ago but wasn’t really considering selling then. Just listed it a few days ago and gotten a few bites but nothing serious. Any offers or input on pricing?

It's not going to sell in a few days most likely. Not a huge amount of people looking to buy a old land cruiser. Of those that are, you have only a portion that have the same taste in modifications as you do.

I just got the HDJ81 24 valve HDT-FT from BaT. 117k miles
Drove from Scottsdale to Orange County.. 1 tank of fuel with some to spare...
A FZJ80 would have been 2 tanks.
With BaT fees 30k
But I feel I got it for free...
Why? Well because, 6k lbs one time write off of $25k, in year 1 (you have to own a business to do that), so at a 40% tax bracket is a 10k deduction.
Then, over the next 100k miles... if it was a FZJ that would be 450 fill ups at $90
($40,000 in fuel)
But the Diesel 24V is more like 220 fill ups, at 10% less cost for Diesel 2 (in California)
($20,000)
So after 100k miles, I save $20,000 over a FZJ80 cost in fuel...
So, 10k write off, 20k less in fuel =
Free Landcruiser 😅

Here is the rig:

I didn't know ow you could license that in California

You could always try BAT or Carsnbids. The miles are a little high for an auction, but it’s been rebuilt and has a good story so it might be a good sell there.

7/2017 - ‘95 moonglow, cloth, mild rust, paint fair, 176k miles, Colorado - $8k. Sold off in 2018.

11/2018 - ‘97 LX450, champagne pearl, locked, immaculate, no spoiler, no phone, 92k miles, Northern California - $25k

12/2018 - ‘97 CE white, 6” Slee, 5.29’s, ARB lockers, chromoly shafts, Slee front bumper, Warn winch, rear 4x4 Labs bumper, Back Bay Storage panel, Safari snorkel, sliders, no OEM roof rack/spoiler, 172k miles, routine maintenance, clean, Arizona/Texas - $21k. At the time, had basic elements of a build that I wanted, a rust free platform, and I could wheel it immediately. Felt price was reasonable at the time, as the build was fresh. More mods to be done to get it where I want it.

11/2021 - ‘97 white USDM poverty pack (unlocked, optioned with alloy wheels, premium stereo, running boards, alarm), all original, full documentation/service records, exceptional condition, 178k miles, Northern California/Utah - $40k. I overpaid, but given it’s rarity and condition, I don’t care…

It's big boy time.

-white
-locked
-lifetime CA vehicle
-under 100k miles

only thing missing is cloth interior and i think itd be a record setter for an obd1 truck. still may be though guess well see.
$80k

Honestly, with how wild everything is currently, I’m surprised it didn’t go for more. It is just about the perfect spec, condition, and history.

I bought my '92 stock FJ80 in December of 2020 for $8400 on an auction site. Ran rough, and I have done a ton of engine/exhaust work on it since then.

Purchased 07/21 - felt like a fair deal at the time. stock 97 40th in sage, 340k no lockers for $4k. Paint badly peeling on hood, some on roof. minor accident on PS side, but came with a quality used fender. Some rust in rear rockers but frame pretty good. Good maintenance history and engine was very clean inside - still needed usual baseline stuff

Killer deal

I don't have any pictures, but picked up a '94 with factory lockers, 270k, very rough shape all around for $5700. I felt like it was a steal. I plan to dump 5-6k into it and then will post the transition! In the PNW it seems like non-locked 80s go for upwards of $10k, which is astounding.

There are a couple of rough 80 series for sale in Colorado for under $10k. None have been worth the effort IMO. Its the destroyed interior and sun faded exteriors that give me pause. The engines are usually good as they have actually been driven all their lives.

then you have this clown that has been trying to sell his "project" for a year now for an inflated price.

...but this one has potential!

That's what I'm dealing with..

The rough ones make good trail beaters though!

Hey all, I bought this triple-locked '96 with 265k miles mid-2021 for $6.5k in Connecticut. Carfax shows I'm the 7th owner, haha.
It has some sweet upgrades: 3" old man emu lift, snorkel, dual battery setup, onboard air compressor. Stock wheels were on it when I bought it. But it also hasn't been baselined - it leaks oil, needs most tubes replaced, paint peeling, front seats beat up, some rust but not terrible, a/c doesn't work. But so far have driven this all over the northeast with no issues, and I always keep extra coolant and oil in the back :)
Cheers,
Josh

Thoughts on a ‘97 Collectors Edition (Sage Pearl, not Triple Locked) with 260k for $21k…? Thing has been in the south it’s life, meticulously maintained, had a interior refresh, and the exterior is good (8ish/10)
