New owner of an FZJ80.
1997 Collectors Edition. 212,000 miles.
Pros: Zero rust, overall solid body and drivetrain. Good glass. New suspension. Decent 305 BFG ATs (worthless spare on factory aluminum wheel). No leaks that I can find right now, and it has rained pretty hard on it. Most all features still work on it, but not all.
Needs (or needed, as I have already done some): Head gasket, front axle seals, oil pump cover gasket (done), oil pan reseal, PHH, better tires, power seat work and leather, steering wheel, center console, and shifter leather covers redone, CD player INOP, D light INOP, no lockers, caster correction (done, Landtank), driver window motor (removed and cleaned, but still slow when wet), hood struts (done), radio antenna (done), fluids changed, and some other maintenance items.
Paid $9000.00.
Budgeted about $7000.00 for what I want to do, minus paint. When I was looking, I posted a wanted ad and got multiple contacts for 80s with better paint, lockers, better interior, but still needed maybe tires, for sure head gaskets, and surely other normal maintenance, and asking prices were averaging $15-16K. So after I put in my $16,000 I'll be ahead minus some features I would want like lockers.
