There is a similar thread in both the 100 and 200 Classifieds Sections, makes sense here too. These trucks are changing hands at a rapid rate these days, having consolidated live market data is a nice thing for both buyers and sellers.

If you have recently bought or sold an 80 series and are comfortable sharing the details, post it here.

There have been a couple of nice early FZJ’s the past couple of weeks! It has been good to see the Love for these as well.

Question to members are the early FZJ’s with the older dash and non airbags worth the same as the later ones ( CE’s and 40th’s not included) or what amount of money should the OBD2/Airbag/etc. trucks add to the valuation?
I have a 91 and a 97 40th. I like both. The 93 and 94 seem to be a nice mix of old looks and new engine. If I could go back in time I would probably order a 94 in white/tan or red/ tan. In an older collector car I think it is a positive to not have air bags. I like the stainless steel bumpers and the old TOYOTA style grill. My 40th is very very nice and feels almost modern. My 91is a totally different experience with cloth/tweed interior and low power 3FE but just as much fun. I think a very very nice original low mile 93 or 94 might be the sweet spot for me, but most collectors gravitate to the 95-97. $46k for a low mile 94 on BAT is strong money and right up there with the 95-97 models I have seen sell.

It really seems like it is all about condition and miles on any 80. I know this: If you find one, pull the trigger immediately. It is just too hard to find them to loose a nice one over $5k either way.

I would probably sell my 91 and 97 for the right 94.

Frankly, I have two 100's with less than 100k miles. They are both a dream to drive and the 4.7 is so smooth and confident. An early 100 without NAV is probably the sleeper right now. If you find one of those, you will have a much more drivable rig. They are still out there if you look.

Yeah, it seems a 94‘ checks several boxes for many of us and the final 80’s are what the collectors are buying. I guess that has been the case for specialty cars for many years, the last of breed gets collected more frequently.

It would be interesting to see if these recent low mile 94’s will be used or stored. I have a sense a lot of the low mileage 97’s will have essentially the same mileage in 5-10 years as they do now.

The 100 series is really a superior driving truck is most areas compared to an 80’, I just never loved the look like I do an 80’, but have definitely started to notice them more as they age and you can get an incredible 100 for what an 80 costs today!

What does consensus say regarding the 100- pre 2001 with rear lockers and center or 2006-07 with more HP with VVT-i but only center lock? Which yr to collect?

I think they are all great. My 2002 100 feels very solid with the basic 4.7 and a 4 speed trans. My 2005 with the updated tech feels much more like a luxury car. Personally, for a toy, I would want an early 100 with no NAV.

When I was shopping for my current fzj80 two years ago, I was also looking at the 100 series. I found several 98-99's with lockers and under 200k miles. I missed one close by in Florida that was a 98 with lockers for $6000 with 168k miles. I'm guessing the same one today would sell for three times that. I like the 100 series in a practical way, but the styling of the 80 series is just too cool even with all the baselining that goes along with them. As they get harder to find in original condition, the value of the 80's just keeps skyrocketing. The 100 series is fast on the 80's heels though, but that solid front axle really sets it apart from newer models.

Also the inline 6 engine represents an important aspect of Land Cruiser heritage, maybe more so for those who have owned older LCs. I remember when the 100 first came out there were much displeasure expressed here in MUD about this too. "They've torn the heart out of LC by putting in a V8", etc.

The 100 series will certainly gain in popularity in the collector world eventually, more quickly if the name plate is not reintroduced as a proper Land Cruiser.

As to which 100 will be most coveted?

Lower equipped models that have been well cared for to us enthusiasts and any premium condition low mileage example by collectors!

No affiliation. I want to say that I hope he gets it, but it‘s making tougher to find lower mileage, clean examples.

The link works. Not sure why it’s showing up like that.

More emotion than common sense to command prices like that. I can accept it, but I don't get it. It's nice to get daily complements on my landcruiser when I'm driving it, but it's not worth that amount of money.

So this one hammered at $28k. Maybe prices are being affected with the higher fuel prices? I wonder if the 80's have hit a plateau like the 40's. Granted this one had a few minor issues such as cracked dash, undercarriage rust and flaking paint on roof, but only 78k miles.:meh:

It probably had more to do with the truck having trashed clearcoat on the roof, cracked dash and an accident on the carfax like you said.

85k miles, clean. Ends in two hours, at $21k currently.

Selling my 1995 later this month. Needs a good detail and putting new tires on it. Texas truck its whole life, so zero rust. I think I'm the 3rd or 4th owner. Some scratches and a few dings, but the paint is solid. Interior is pretty good, except for the PS seat. Someone did a patch job on the DS, that is "ok", but I have Tuff Duck covers on front and back seats. 2" Ironman lift and non winch ARB front bumper. Otherwise stock. 3rd row seats are gone. I've owned for 11 years. Bought it with 203K miles and has 236K miles now. No lockers and it is black with the silver mirrors and silver door handles, so those all could be turn offs. It is OBDII compatible since it was mid 1995 production date. Needs new head unit and antenna. No real issues otherwise. Thinking 10K is reasonable? Seems prices are all over the map depending on where I search.

Sold for $34k. Super clean with lockers. Somebody got a good deal.

The market is softening. I can feel it in my bones. It may bounce back, it may continue on a downward trend, but at this moment, the arrow is pointed south. Act accordingly.
We’ll see. Hoping to find a clean one at a reasonable price. That one had some paint issues that a lot of BaT buyers would need addressed, plus OBDI and a color that’s not for everyone. Frame looked good though. Market is high for almost everything right now.

Today on CNN :

"Wild Bitcoin sell off sessions may have caused unrepairable shortage on the 80 series market.

Cruiserheads had to barricade their garages and workshops, most of them placed the keys in the safe and triple locked it"

I'm thinking that the rise in fuel prices(and everything else for that matter) will cause a slight plateau on the upward trend on 80 series values. It will cut out most non collector's as being impractical to own and drive a vehicle that gets 12-13 mpg on top of the costly baselining on a 25 year old truck. It happened in 2006-8 when gas prices where through the roof, but values went straight up when oil took a digger and gas went back down.
People seeking asset acquisitions as a hedge to the deflating dollar will still be in the market though as money in the bank right now is a losing proposition compared to tangible liquid investments AKA collector cars.

So.....has everyone seen the 1994 FZJ80 on BAT with 1k miles!!?? Bid is at over $77k with 6 days left. Talk about a unicorn! Plus 3x locked!
