There is a similar thread in both the 100 and 200 Classifieds Sections, makes sense here too. These trucks are changing hands at a rapid rate these days, having consolidated live market data is a nice thing for both buyers and sellers.

If you have recently bought or sold an 80 series and are comfortable sharing the details, post it here.

First year for fzj80 with 83k miles. Showroom condition. Now at $25k bid with 6 days left. Sky's the limit on this one. I'll bet the D light even works on this rig.

Amazing rig, BAT has sure drawn out the nice clean rigs. Hope it goes over $40k

Didn’t want to make a whole new post for this, but I have the opportunity to purchase a 97 LX with 293k. Unlocked but it’s in great condition (clean interior, well maintained, no rust OME 2.5”, etc). Seller wants 15, does that seem fair?

depends on the maintenance, hows the frame? carfax, and maintenance records

Frame appears to be 95-97% rust free. No head gasket work but besides that it appears to be take care of properly. Haven’t run the carfax yet

I just bought this LX for $5500. 201K miles, no maintenance records. Clean Carfax, originally a California rig and I can't find any rust on it. The frame looks amazing, like brand new.
Front seats worn, but third row are mint! LOL. PO said a bear tried to get in, maybe attracted to terrible air freshener smell? It popped sunroof out but fortunately didn't manage to climb in and damage interior. Sunroof now caulked into place. Has power steering groan with bubbling PS fluid. Check engine light says O2 sensors. Tires worn out.

You sir stole that thing. There’s easily someone that would be willing to throw down $15k on that thing. Shiny factory paint goes a long way on these things as a repaint can easily cost $10,000 and a lot of them have trashed paint

It appears there are 2 different markets. 1. People with plenty of cash willing to pay far and above what any comparable vehicle would command for a landcruiser. 2. People who see and value these the same as any other similar size, mileage, age 4x4..................The secret to saving money and making money are effectively buying from the cheap market and selling to the high market......

I think the expensive ones currently sold are mainly low mile unmolested examples that are getting harder to find as the vehicles' age in the market. Buying "cheap ones" usually means high miles, bad paint, and unmaintained.

Everything can be brought back to restoration quality but it will cost huge $$, verses buying a more expensive but clean example to start with. Cheap doesn't necessarily mean a good deal, however it seems there are a few savvy buyers that bought from sellers that weren't aware of the value of their vehicles.

Agreed and would add that the higher dollar sales also coincide with 3x locked trucks. From my experience, whether you buy a truck for 5K, 9K, or 20K if you do what's typically required, you end up with a $20K+ truck based on how far you go and how detailed / committed you are to the standard of reconditioning that you want to achieve.

I thought it was buy high and sell low! :hmm:

This is a VERY true and informed statement. Paying $20k to $30k for a nice 80 is probably the smart money right now. My high-mile 80 had great paint, but needed seats, wheels, lift, and a few things that added up quickly. Good news is when finished with a restoration, it is a really great rig that seems to be appreciating so I think the money is well spent. Until recently I thought I was about 5k upside down in an early FJ80 restoration. Now I think I am even or even up a bit.

It is fun to enjoy a restoration process on something and feel like it was at least a wash.

The chum is in the water with this one. One day left. At $34k now. Watch the last ten minutes of bids.

Technically, though they can be quite satisfying for a new owner, adding a lift and discarding stock wheels, etc. would be modifications rather than a restoration. Seems that the highest dollar rigs seen on BAT, like the $34K truck above, are not modified. I wanted an unmodified example too, but not one that was into 5 digits!

1994, 78K miles, no diff locks. Has some small rust on under carriage, cracked dash otherwise looks good. 5 days left.

This one looks nice too but not as nice a the Red $46k sell. This truck could be just as nice with a little TLC. I like both the green and the red. In fact a this level of original perfection any color would look good. I am sure we will see a $30k+ bid on this one.

There have been a couple of nice early FZJ’s the past couple of weeks! It has been good to see the Love for these as well.

Question to members are the early FZJ’s with the older dash and non airbags worth the same as the later ones ( CE’s and 40th’s not included) or what amount of money should the OBD2/Airbag/etc. trucks add to the valuation?
