So I've pretty much decided on the Doug Thorley catback, but there are a few things that have me concerned.

After looking for best prices, etc. I noticed that the description for the catback system at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Doug-Thorley-Headers-89248-100-Series/dp/B00BXF2VBW says:

"The exhaust is manufactured using heavy duty 16GA aluminized steel tubing, and super flat 3/8 inch flanges. Application Specification: 1999-05 Toyota Land Cruiser 100-Series, Lexus LX470/4.7 liter V8. 2-1/4 inch mid-pipes, 2-1/2 inch tailpipe, passenger side rear exit."

Is the entire system including pipes 304 stainless steel, or is it only the muffler? If it is aluminized steel, then that's a death sentence because of the salt they put on the roads in the winter, even if I am very anal about pressure washing my undercarriage. The product highlights at the top of the page say it has 304 stainless tubing...

To those who have it, which is it?

With my amazon prime membership, I get free two-day shipping, so I will most likely order it from there if the system is true full stainless steel.

Also, what kind of hardware will I need? Thanks in advance.

You know I got it right from the site with free shipping you should be able to get the same deal right from them...

I believe it is all stainless as noted on the site. I can remember since it was back in October that I did the exhaust, but remember it was a damn heavy box...
You should not need anything it comes with all the clamps you need. I was working a lot at the time i got it and ended up just dropping the truck and exhaust at the local shop that I take my vehicles to. Their exhaust guy installed it for 75$ only thing he did not like was the clamp for the bend coming from the driver side so he welded that... Said the clamp would have been fine but he liked it welded better, I got him a cold six pack since there was no additional charge

Thanks once again costalcat! I'm gonna have one of the guys at my dealership install it for me.

NP landylover21... I know you will like it! Let us know how it goes!

So how do you like it?

I'm on the fence about this for myself.

I can only speak for myself, but I still love it, so far one of the best mods I have made.. Granted, iI'm just starting the build out but I think it sounds great.

If you are just starting out your build there are a lot of other things I would do first... I also have the Doug Thorley catback exhaust installed and it is pretty loud and the droning gets annoying sometimes... My truck has been noisy for years anyway as I've run 315/75/16 BFG KM2's for about 5 years so they kinda drown each other out - wawawawa... No complaints about quality - I was just under the truck installing new O2 sensors the other day admiring the quality of the stainless steel, fitment of mounting brackets, etc of the DT system...

Thanks guys.

I've already done the lift and tires. I'm not going to do bumpers for a while, if ever. Maint is up to date, the truck needs nothing. What else is there other than exhaust?

Just to get another perspective on the table, if I could go back to stock exhaust for reasonable money I would.

The extra noise/drone get old after a while... Any performance gains seem more psychic rather than concrete.

Old thread but with so many cat-back ones out there I didn't know which made the most sense to ask on so here we are.

Has anyone done dynos on the DT or Borla cat-backs? Everything I read seems to be about sound, drone, or fit, which is all good, but I am considering a local shop vs a pre-built. Local is less expensive, but if there are actual performance improvements (and understanding them likely to be small without headers as well) from the engineering behind either DT or Borla then that might make the higher cost worthwhile. Any hard data out there?

Just an update on this while I see it up here: I modified the DT system by having a resonator and stock exit tailpipe welded in last week. I couldn't stand the drone anymore after driving a peacefully quiet LX570 for a few days.

For a daily driver the drone gets old fast, and I kept telling myself it was worth it for the extra sound outside but I finally caved in.

I still love mine, but I did throw on a resonator at the end since my wife said the drone in the 3rd row was pretty awful.

I have the DT headers, custom mid sections with flowmaster hi flow cats and the DT catback.

ah, well that explains why searching MUD didn't find anything, thank you!

And schnikeys those results surprise me! I would call BS if that had been from some random user somewhere, it's hard to believe a 33 ft-lb bump at 2000 rpm and 21 hp @2600 for that EMS system - now I see why folks used to be into them! Does anyone know the 'secret' to why their system was such a notable improvement over both stock and the DT? Something a guy willing to have his own built could ask to be done, such as pipe size, muffler type, etc? Or were they really that good at design, creating scavenging effects and managing vortices/turbulence brilliantly?

This is exactly what I have been wondering!

And anyone know anyone from when EMS was in business? Might even be worth running down whoever might've had a hand in that system development, find out of they have blueprints or guidance we might follow...

I'd be interested in this as well. My 01' has been ticking for a few months and I wouldn't mind getting some more HP to the ground.

@RobRed dyno tested the EMS system as well as the Thorley system back in 2012. Not sure when EMS went out of business but all the leftover inventory was bought by a MR2 shop in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Do a search on EMS for the 100 series.
