Mobil 1 Out of Business?

I just went to buy synthetic gear oil for my axles and transfer case and they only had 4 bottles on the shelf. When I asked if they had more in the back they said that Mobil 1 was out of business and that they weren't getting anymore? I find this hard to believe.

Their website still works: Mobile-One: Audio to Go! Apparently they've re-focussed the business on car audio though.

I guess it is time to search for a new synthetic oil... If this is true... I need to find something as my new cruiser will arrive tomorrow and I want to take the time over the weekend to replace all the fluids.

no sa.........................

One of their refineries went under water a few months ago... So I heard. We've got a nice shortage, here as well.

Oh, and it's Mobil, not "mobile" :bang:

I've been looking for oil all week and the last place I looked had a sign up from Mobil/Exxon stating that a refinery went through a hurricane type storm and there is supply issues.

Time to start stock piling what I can find.

what about royal purple? i've heard its good ...dumb name though

When I was in Costco yesterday here in Sunnyvale I noticed there wasn't any Mobil 1 on display. There previously always has been as far as I can remember.

From the Mobil 1 website:

Mobil 1 Limited Availability

We regret the limited availability of Mobil 1 motor oil. Due to the impact of Hurricane Ike on our raw material suppliers, we are experiencing limited availability of Mobil 1 motor oils. We appreciate your loyalty to the Mobil 1 brand and the trust you have placed in our products. We are working quickly to have your choice of Mobil 1 motor oils available at normal levels as soon as possible. Thank you for you patience.

If I can't find 2 more quarts of mobil1 5-30 syn, I'll be posting up a case of six in the classifieds for those that are hoarding. ;)

:confused:Is that you fj40Jim?

negative. But I did learn a lot from Jim during my time in Ohio.

:)

Listen, gear oil is gear oil. I don't care what anyone says. If you starve the diffs, they are going to break. If you keep them lubricated, they will be fine for many, many hundreds of thousands of miles.

I might see justification of synth in the xfer, but even that is pretty much a diff placed sideways.

MSG, have you considered Amspoil synthetic motor oil?

I agree with you:D
