Moab: Columbus Day Weekend

Lock the front, though to engage it you need to move back a bit which you couldn't in that situation. So how did you get out? Did someone give you a tug? That seems most logical in that situation. Too bad the e-lockers aren't like the ARB's in that they engage immediately.-o-

Rory got out under his own power. As far as the front lockers kicking in Rory can confirm if his did or didn't. In the pic above where my rear wheel is up, I initially had the front in that hole and could not move and my rear was up in the air. Evan suggested to try the lockers, but I also said I can't move, but tried it anyways. I locked the front and gave it gas, and guess what, it kicked in and pulled me through.

Great pics and happy birthday Rudy. What a great way to spend your birthday--new-to-you-truck, Moab, and turning 34. Priceless.

Birthday??
Happy Bday buddy!

Daisy

Thanks guys! You are right Onur, it was a great way to spend a birthday weekend! It is something that I will never forget.

Nice video!

By the way, I am kinda disappointed that you guys went all the way to Moab and wasted your time on Fins.

-o-

Haha. Ali threatened me with a beating if I wasted "HIS TIME" by going on Fins. So instead we rocked the Slickrock MTB trail. That trail is crazy. Think Hell's Revenge on a bike!

Lockers never engaged, I think I ended up turning my front wheels enough to get a bite, and then powered out.

After my first year there when I did Fins, I told myself "never again" will I waste my time on Fins.

To me, it's a throw-away trail. The scenery might be nice, but going down Chicken Corners will give you better scenery than Fins. Hell, the drive from ABQ-Moab gives you better views, especially when you are coming around Bluff and Monticello.

Anyway, enough bitchin' from the afternoon drunk guy in the peanut gallery.

Onur,

We selected Fins as a 2nd trail for Sunday. We selected it because it was close in proximity to the 1st trail we did on Sunday. We selected it because it has easy exits for anyone that wanted to bail early and because it was close to the bike trails (Rory and Ryan had said they wanted to do some biking.) We selected it because we had someone that was willing to lead the trail and had been on it before. We also selected it because it is a moderate trail and we had 2 people that showed up for the Moab trip that were relatively new to wheeling and had told the group they wanted to "learn their truck." We also only did the 1st half of Fins because Rudy and Keun needed to leave early. Jon had already bailed because he was feeling bad.

We have another guy in the club that likes to bitch about trail selection then doesn't show up for the runs. One is more than enough. You get to voice your opinion when you show up; otherwise, STFU.

What's the story with this picture?

We were all sworn to secrecy but it looks like there is a "leak" somewhere in our group. How did you get that picture?

Rory,

Who finally convinced you to replace the starter contacts?

With all the criticism of Fins & Things being a waste of time just for nice scenery and too easy, I was thinking that it sounded like the perfect trail for me to drive if I ever make it to Moab.

Marc,
For your first trip to Moab, I think Fins, Porcupine Rim, and Hells (in that order) would be a good intro.

Fins has a lot of slick rock but also a lot of dirt road and rocky trail. PR is all shelf road (~22 mi) with a steep drop on one side and only 2 or 3 moderate obstacles. HR has some optional extreme obstacles with bypasses for almost everything except the steep climbs and descents on slick rock which any vehicle is capable of doing.

We wanted to do Metal Masher but nobody felt they could find the trail and keep us on it. Jon & Evan did it at the last CM but their trail leader got lost and they wandered around for a while. Mark hadn't run the trail for a long time and he remembered that they also got lost. Since nobody wanted to lead that trail or Steel Bender, we had to pick an alternate.

We discussed Moab Rim but the mix of vehicles and different experience levels didn't make for a good group trip. Maybe next year.

I guess I better respond...

No good excuse, just running late to the trailhead and didn't want to keep the group waiting any longer while I got gas. Instead, I made the group wait on the trail while I borrowed five gallons from Jon! as it turns out, I probably could have made it through the trail without adding it. I never ran out, just ran low. Once the low fuel light flickered on, I figured better safe than sorry.

That's my one time; I don't plan on that ever happening again. For me, the 25.4 gallon stock capacity in the tank has always been plenty - IF I take the time to fill up the tank before wheeling, that is. :bang:

It was in Rory's photo bucket, that snitch. I was waiting for the bribes to be paid off! Rory:flipoff2:

For those of us on our visit to Moab, we took Hell's Revenge first, why you giving Marc some slack there Mike? Not complaining, but treat all the first time Moab newbies the same :flipoff2:

Rudy

Have you seen what I drive? No lift. No sliders. No beefy rear bumper. No receiver hitch.

This trip was a great introduction to Moab for me. Starting Hell's Revenge the first day was an eye opener to say the least. Especially looking down Hell's Gate. Poison Spider was another great trail with some amazing views and cliffs  Although Porcupine Rim was not as exciting as the first two trails it gave me a chance to MTB and my brother the chance to wheel an 80. My brother and I skipped Fins in favor of the Slickrock MTB trail, but from the pics it looks like a good intro to Moab.

Marc, you can borrow my trailer hitch, but don't scratch it up! :flipoff2:

Evan, sorry for the leak, I loaded so many pics into photobucket I didn't even know it was there.:whoops:
