Found a guy that has a 1981 mini truck ps box, pump, bracket, pulley, hoses, and clamps for $300. Should I take it or try to weasel him down some? I have a 71 fj40 with 33 inch bfgs and my arms are getting tired.

What are your plans for the truck in the future?

Lockers? Suspension lift? Spring over?

Pretty much the going price...but you wouldn't have to play with freight.

Stock look, 2.5 inch ome suspension lift, no bigger then 33 in tires, 8274, paint. The there isnt much offroading around me that is very gnarly, mostly steep dirt hills, logging roads, kelly humps, and downed trees. I forgot to get the miles off the truck, but its getting parted out and he said he had everything I needed. Just need a ps box bracket, I think.

Unless someone has installed a newer steering column in your Land Cruiser, you will need to modify your existing steering column for a rag joint or other coupler system in order for it to work with the power steering gear you are looking at installing....

75 up.

There is no such thing as a right column, as anything that you put into that truck will need to be custom, from the mounting of the column to the wiring of the turn signal/high beam/ignition switch....

:meh:

We made both of my 40's (74 and 78) work without any modification to the column in either truck. Don't know how but it worked. BTW, I run 35's and locked in the rear. Run a P/S cooler of some sort with the mini p/s set-up.

Later,

Thanks you guys, I might as well start to piece this project together. Ill offer him $150 and go from there. Ill try to post some picks when I get a little further and before anyone says anything I spent all day at work FAQ ing my brains out. I'm pretty sure I have a problem and your all to blame.

That was because you have the later style column where the steering gear is separate from the steering column. Early trucks, meaning ones manufactured prior to 09/72, had a steering column that was integral to the steering gear assembly.

The only thing useful is the box and $150 is a little steep for it. I see them selling for $50-100. The mini pump is not easy to adapt. A Tercel pump or a Sagniaw is easier. The hoses and the rest of the stuff is not useful.

Tercel Pump

Pin; this is an interesting piece of info.......:hhmm: wonder if it can be used on a 1 1/2 F engine?; TIA

why is the mini pump hard to adapt if it comes with the box? i have the same set up to install and it cost me $0

Where and how are you going to hang it on the F/2F? The Tercel pump and Saginaw pumps can be mounted on the air pump bracket.

I'm hoping that the solution I came up with, (and have installed just not tested) will work. I used the mini-truck pump mounting bracket, welded an 'ear' on it to match the other one and mounted that to the F alternator bracket. I made an adjuster from parts of the idler pulley setup. It aligns pretty well but as stated I have yet to run this. I still need to tighten it all down before I start it.

The actual fab work took me a couple of hours, but the planning took a couple of evenings. ;)
