This is my first post to mud but I have been lingering on the site for months. I got my first FJ40 a few months ago and I am doing the mini truck power steering conversion. Many thanks to all the people who have posted with their instructions and questions because that is how I got all my information on doing this conversion.

I caught on quickly that reading FAQ and using search are the best way to gather info and keep folks from being cranky. That being said, I am at the point in the process of putting the belt on. The pump/gearbox (used dorry brackets from Georg, Romer's build thread) are on, hoses custom made and ready.

My question (forgive me if it lies somewhere in the deep, dark mud server but I found zilch)

Do I have to take the radiator off to get the belt on? If this is a stupid question and the answer is obvious, I'm cool with being viewed as an idiot. I just need to know.

Thanks in advance for help, it will be greatly appreciated!

I kinda slid it over one fan blade then turned and over the next and so forth... shouldnt need to take off the shroud... it is the radiator fan shroud that your refering to taking off correct not the radiator?

BTW welcome to Mud :) have some friends living in Boise... nice area :)

Thanks for the reply! I guess any part of the radiator area, shroud, fan any of that. I just can not envision a way to get in. What did you do to the alternator belt? Take it off first?

Boise is pretty cool!

I loosened the alternative belt and was able to worm it in thru the blades. Thanks a million!!!!!

I live in Nampa. Bought the 40 from a guy in Boise though. I have had it out and about some until I decided to do this conversion. It's been sitting in the garage for a few weeks. Getting pitmans arms off and getting all the right stuff gathered took more time than I would have liked.

Mini truck brake conversion is next!!

Good to meet you!

Lisa
