There are other reasons why we DD our 80's. Because we like to, for one. Because I want to wrap my wife and kid in 6k lbs of steel that won't fail even if I roll at 70 MP (knock on wood). But MPG ain't one of them, even with a completely stock 80.

 to the absolute best reason for owning an 80!

Just bought some XML's for my rig. Wife is looking forward to how badass it's gonna be when she pulls up to her business networking lunches in our battlewagon! (i knew there was a reason i married her!):p

Brought this thread back up because i was SEARCHING for what options/parts i need to fit these big ass military tires under my 80. Thanks MUD for making my hours on the computer seem productive! :D

Where did you pick your tires up from? I know that tim.korn or something has XML's and I am pretty sure he did a radius arm flip, along with other mods

if he got them from the guy off of pirate then it would be the same guy I got mine off of last year.

The guy i got them from on Pirate was selling them for a friend. The owner of them is a guy who has a custom fab shop in southern california. He had originally purchased them for a customer building a mini-monster truck. When the economy fell, the customer dropped the project and the owner of the fab shop has been selling off all the parts to recoup his losses.
I got 5 BRAND NEW tires with beadlocks for $1200. It's a 300 mile drive one way for me, but i can't find these tires anywhere else! Especially being brand new!!!!!
Can't wait to start grooving these guys!!!

Odd, the big military tire thread is closed???

Anywho, just saw that TWF recently got a shipment of the Baja's AND MTR's. In case anyone is looking for some military 16.5's.

My Baja's took a s*** ton of weight on two, the other two only took a couple ounces. Still have a bit of a wobble on one of them. I'm probably going to rotate that one on the rim and get it re-balanced.

Awesome trailer by the way!

I used to be a mechanic way back in a former life. And have balanced hundreds of tires(thousand?) And what I did when we had one that needed a lot of wieght. Was mark the tire and wheel where the heavy spot was. Then dismount the tire and put em opposite of each other. This sometimes would cancel each other out. I had many tires balance with zero wieght. They were all Toyo and Dunlop. The best tires IMHOP. They had zero side run out. Goodyears are the $hittiest tires IMHOP(sorry). Thier quality was horrible. Side run out could be measrured in inches. It just got worse the bigger the tire. GY's high performance tires were good. But the off road was just plain sorry as heelll. The GY Wranglers were the worst of the worst. I worked at a Jeep dealer that did "Bigfoot" conversions on just about ever TJ/YJ they sold. So I mounted alot of 35s.

i picked up some Airsoft BB's for balancing mine. 10,000 20gram BB's - 14oz (2000!)per tire as recommended by the DynaBead website. When i get around to cutting sheetmetal, i'll mount the tires and do a write up.

So where can one get these XML's? It'll be next year before that happens but I like to plan ahead.

They're getting pretty hard to find. My source was a guy in Nevada that sold them to me for $100 a piece. If he runs across some more, he's supposed to give me a call.

I know some army and marine folks. My ex Bro-in-law works in the motor pool at Ft Hood. Maybe I'll give him a call and see what he can do.

if anyone finds more xml's pm me!!! people want a rediculous aount for them retail

I DD my truck now with 39's

What sort of mpg are you getting with the 39's?

I'm planning to remove my flares- but would an 850/860 lift with some trim packers be enough to clear XML's I wonder? I don't mind giving up a bit of articulation from lowering the bumpstops.

I want some of these too if anyone can find them for a good deal.

I was able to get 10mpg with my XMLs

New sets are available but extremely pricey. For new ones last time I bought a new set I paid 3k for them. That was brand spanking new with labels on them.

When I bought them there were only 2 sets available on the west coast. Michelin rep said if they have them get them. 95% of them go straight to the military.
