Anyone off hand know the Mileage, HP/TQ ratings, weight of a 1992 FJ-80? How much does the stock engine/tranny/tcase weigh? Thanks

Lee

12-14 mpg if you are lucky, about 170 hp and about 5,000 lbs bone dry. Don't know the torque

Crappy/not enough/a lot...........:D

Had to go look.....

3FE 155 HP @ 4,000 rpm. Torque 220 lb-ft @ 3,000 rpm.

As opposed to 212 HP @ 4600 rpm and 275 ft-lbs. of torque @ 3200 rpm in an FZJ80. Quite a difference....

Actually, I don't feel bad. Planning on buying a engineless 92FJ-80. Just looking at my options to swap into there

;)

Ah. In that case you'll have 0 HP @ 0 rpm and 0 ft-lbs. of torque @ 0 rpm. ;p

How about a 1HD – FT or 1HD – FTE the way the oil price are going it may not be a bad idea. Certainly over here they are more popular and it is not just economy, very broad torque band giving effortless cruising power from just above tick over, very rated by the of road fraternity and much preferred over its petrol siblings nice as they are.

can you both super charge AND turbo charge a motor? this is not ment to be a smartass question(well it started out that way) ;)

Yes I believe it has been done and combines the advantages of both. I can not quite remember which car but it was a World Championship Rally Car a few years back.

I think it was a Lancia Delta world rally Car it had both Tuubo and Intercooler.

a turbo and intercooler are ment to go together. was thinking a turbo and a supercharger together.

Yes. It was actually done quite often with old planes.

See the other thread where a Toyota V8 from a Tundra was installed in an 80.

Drop a 350 into it and you're 260-300hp @ 14-16 mpg with standard pump gas. Throw a Paxton supercharger in and you're around 360-400, with supreme. Go with a 350 ramjet and you are around that without a s/c. Screw the 3FE. It was okay for 230k, but I've got places to go and things to do. Cheaper parts, instant access to a huge aftermarket, and runs like a fat girl to a free dessert bar. I liked the 3FE as an engine on flat slow sections, but it sucked on hills, on freeways, with big tires, at the gas station, at the parts counter, around 93+ cruisers, around s/c cruisers, around turtles... you know the drill...

tenative plan as of the moment is to drop a 7gmte supra engine/5speed toyota tranny/tcase.... Turbo/20mpg/EFI/simple to wire/capable of over 400HP.

I thought about the 350 as an option, but quite honestly the cheby swap would cost more (by my calculations anyway), I would rather keep it all toyota if I can.

If I could go to a yota v8, I would be all over it.

go 2JZ twin turbo....about the same dimensions i belive as a stock motor...plus can be seriously built

Why step DOWN from 4+ liters to 3?

A 7M or a 2JZ just doesn't sound right for an off-road vehicle that will pass 6,000 lbs and will want to lug.

I've got the Supra engine in my 88 Toyota Cressida. Same engine without the turbos. Be careful; about picking up an 89-92 engine as they are super reliable with the exception of the stock head gasket which loves to blow fluid within the first 100k. Put in an aftermarket head gasket and it will fix the problem. I wouldn't consider this option as cost would be much higher than a 350. The I-6 Supra came in two configurations. One had a mild V head and the other had a higher compression V head. My Cressida has a higher V head, but with a turbo setup, you are still not going to have the power of a turbocharged 3FE or a 350. My 350tbi swap ran $8500 all inclusive to the A440F. He would do the same price including a TH700R4 with locking front hubs. I know as a matter of fact that you can't touch a Toyota anything turbocharged and installed, for anywhere near that, much less getting 15+ mpg. That is unless your brother in law owns a chop shop ;) If you need to stay with the 3FE, an installed rebuild will be $4500-7000 installed and you can add a turbo to that for another $1500-2000 or so. This would be the best option if you stay with a Toyota engine. The Supra engine torques at high revs rather than at low revs like the 3FE. Stick with a turbo 3FE or go with the 350.
