What's up guys. Just looking at your new forum here in the club section. Welcome!

Just throwing this out there but I'll be up near Shippensburg in mid-Oct with one of my Cruisers and will be doing a lot of riding over a 3-4 day stretch. Probably have some other people and trucks along from down this way...

I saw that Klunky Chris is near there and maybe some more folks.

Anyway, we have an old cabin near Shippensburg (Pine Grove Furnace State Park in the Michaux State Forest in the South Mountain Range). I've been thrashing those ridge roads and trails for 20+ years.

There isn't any real wheeling (that is if we don't sneak on the ATV / Snowmobile trails - I wouldn't know about this  ) so to speak but miles of dirt road / logging road driving and good scenery. There may be places to wheel close by that I don't know about...

Just throwing it out there in case someone wanted to ride a bit, maybe cookout and talk Cruisers.

I'll post the specific dates when I have them.

in order to post in here, you first need to post pics of your cruiser. i'm suprised your post even showed up :flipoff2:

i'm an hour-ish north-ish of shipp'nburg.

My folks live a little further down the ridge near Caledonia SP (Mont Alto). Keep us posted and if all things align properly on my end I could make a run out that way for a cookout and some cold beverages. Beautiful time of year to be in the SF. I have always wondered if there was any place to wheel out there...yea thought about the ATV trails but have thus far been a good boy.

I'm definitely right there and down for a little hang out and chat.

yea... I haven't found any wheeling that's worth a *trip* here, but there are miles of dirt access roads and getting out into the woods is fun in itself.

stay off the ATV trails.
the DNR or DCNR or DCR or whatever they're called now  have got the hots for people driving in unauthorized areas. (that's basically any *trail* with a gate or tank trap)
they're activly looking for people. I mainly stay good and don't go where I'm not supposed to be anyway. The troublemakers (that I DON'T associate with) have an issue with tearing everything up, having a campfire, leaving a couch and 10 empty cases of beer etc.

haven't explored down Mont Alto way..... I've heard there's some still unclosed areas that are interesting, but no one's shown them to me yet and for all I know they're closed now. (I know 2 of the trails we used to take are...)

keep us posted!!!

Sounds good. I'll post the dates I'll be up there as it gets closer.

Most of the DCNR guys in the State Parks and greater State Forest are good guys. There are a few hard-ons that are bored and a general PITA but generally they are pretty laid back.

Was kidding for the most part about the snow mobile / ATV trails. In my younger days we made a few maverick night runs around there but that was long ago. There are a few bad groups in that area that ruin it for everyone with littering, vandalism and general tom foolery.

Most likely we'll be riding the extensive ridge road network, fishing a bit and grilling out, relaxing and consuming cold adult beverages at the cabin.

Andy

yea, I've never really had any problem with DCNR.
I don't want to sound like I'm complaining or anything as the damage being done is real, and if we can't police our own... they'll police us all...
(that being said... I have no hope of EVER being able to talk sence to the offenders)

re-reading my post I thought it might sound like I don't like DCNR. That isn't the case. I was only relaying news that's local knowledge. They had a big article in the paper about how they are supposedly patroling for off roaders now. That includes the ATV guys too though.
We *kind* of laughed as the actual officers said they didn't know how they were going to catch people when they have like 5-6 staff and so much land to cover...

and I don't know what acronym they use (DCR DNR DCNR) because they changes the organization a few years back and I never learned the new splinter groups :D

PS: sell me your cabin so I can live there! :D

You have no idea how many times I've "informed" my family that I was taking up residence full time at that place.

It's awesome and something I consider from time to time.

It's not for everyone though - there all TONS of State regs regarding the property. No running water, no indoor bathroom, etc. Hunting and fishing magazines in the outhouse though! :D

Awesome cold-water spring on the property as well so all of your needs are present - just not modern.

You'd be surprised at what those cabins sell for. Many of them are family owned for decades so they rarely become available but when they do, they don't cost much.

DCNR? Heck we just call them Tree Cops. :bounce:

Hey Bandy Rooster, Not far from ya. I'm up here near Williamsport.

Hey Guys. I just got the link to the forum from Chris.
I am just outside of Harrisburg in Mechanicsburg. I thought Chris and I were the only cruiser owners in central pa.
Glad to see that there are others

Looks like I'll be up there the week of Oct 3rd - Monday to Sunday. If anyone is up for some riding / wheeling or talking cruisers and drinking , let me know.

well let us know!

I'll PM you my cell as well

I'm screwed...work is taking me to the land of the cheese eating surrender monkies. To those who make it...down some cold beverages for me.

Nope, I don't. I don't really know anyone in the area. I'm only there a few times a year and I don't get out and mingle when I'm there. Usually in a trout stream, in one of the cruisers, in the woods or drinking cold  on the front porch...

it's almost mid october.....

:D

Yep, just got back. Was up there from Monday 3rd to the following Tuesday.

As usual, a lot of ridge road riding and no real trail action to speak of. There is a section of one of the ridge roads that has a nice rock section and some steep inclines to play on - that was fun.

Otherwise, lots of fishing and chilling at the cabin - it's got some bigs rocks in the yard so we got some pretty funny poser shots.

I was really surprised that all of the leaves were still on the trees.
