MetalTech front bumper!

We build one for the FJC that is all tube and wheeler oriented. We took the original wing design from the 80 series and integrated it into a bumper. The FJC rear frame is very similar to the 80 and so are the mounting points. I could look into a rear tube bumper just like the FJC for the 80 series if there is any interest.

I can certainly have it powder coated, we are going for the raw wheeler look to keep costs down. We are shooting for a $800 price with the stinger, probably $750 or less w/o the stinger. I'll have some solid numbers once I know how much laser cutting and forming is.

compared to the ARB ( keep in mind that have a diferent target ) this tube bumper you think it will have less 75% of the strength ..? ( no offence please .. honest question .. )

Tube is built around slow speed hardcore wheeling. ARB is built around high speed protection. "Stronger" is really not the question.

It doesn't matter if an ARB is "stronger" for slow speed hardcore wheeling - you are still going to beat it up badly compared to a tube bumper. Much as it doesn't matter if a tube bumper is lighter and has better clearance if you are bashing roos at 70 mph.

Mark,

Very interested in the rear. I do not want a big heavy bumper out back, and do not want to run the spare back there...so your rear looks perfect to me.

Take my design, add a lower hoop set in at an angle with frame trimming plus the quarter protection. Integrate a hitch and triangulate it back to the frame.

Would be trick.

I wouldn't say that it is 75% less in strength. Tubing is a much lighter weight material and can take a lot of abuse. Hence the reason they are used for roll cages. We have had a customer plow a deer over with his extra large stinger on his FJ40 with zero damage. So it is up to the challenge of protecting your front end from animals on the road.

Nice but,... I would incorporate a 2" receiver in there. I know you don't want to mount a winch in there.. and there are a lot of peeps that don't... but the capability of mounting a removable winch when you DO need it is indispensable. That way you can always take it off and put a cover on the receiver (those testicle thingies would work!).

Bill

Actually I don't do any rocks here .. but I like your tube bumpers. On other hand, I need a descent off road bumper to accept my winch and protect my front from off road ( mud that we do down here ) issues and others in a crash ..

I'm pretty sure that at the end the tube bumper can be as tough as any other ARB or TJM bumper with the apropiate desing and still keep the benefits of the tube.

i'm no fabricator, nor am i a hardcore wheeler (yet) but that looks like functional artwork, i like the minimalist approach to the design. even for just a regular aftermarket replacement, and IF you could jimmy up a can carrier (?? or even tire carrier), i'd still sport that thing. i'm sure you'll sell tonnes here! :steer:

Hey LT,

I would be interested in seeing what you have to offer for the rear bumper, also, will you offer kits of the bumpers for the do it yourselfers that have a welder and some time??

Noah

Now that's not a bad idea... You could sell the product and still have time to dream about the Canadian in your life! :flipoff2:

Any updates for the MetalTech front bumper? Thanks.

x3. I am in the market for a front and rear bumper. I was going to build my own but the design for the front you have been hinting at would be very similar to what I would build.

What is the status. I am looking for raw steel so I can powder coat them myself.
