I saved this a while back but if anyone knows who made it please let me know as I want to entice him to make another cause these shells from fleabay lack the ability to survive 1 year.

That is all.

Well if the maker isnt present, anyone have an idea of who else can make one?

You could sell em like hotcakes.

I also go through the e-bay plastic cases and this thread is giving me some ideas as well.

I keep mine in my pockets during all sorts of activities.... If you just keep them in your purse at the mall they may last longer.

Oh yes he did

Trunk has a good sense of humor as long as we stick to tech (and I did!)... but we've decended into chat and that will bring the Mods out in force.

I'm actually considering trying to make an alternate key shell, metallic or otherwise. If it comes to anything you guys will be the first to know!

Get a soft plastic cover for it. They may not seem to offer a lot of protection, but every little bit helps.

(Now that's tech!)

IDK about that monster pictured, but I too have gone through several plastic shells on mine. I would be in for a relatively normal sized model made out of metal.

I've purchased a standard key w/o keyless entry to use, and figured I could cut the key off of this one once it fails. But I don't like the idea of having that much crap on my keyring.

Have both my original keys, no cracks in the shell. The eBay keys have to be inferior if failing that quickly. Having to replace the OEM key shell every 5-15 years doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. It would be cool if someone were to cast a metal shell the same size as the OEM, probably not likely though.

Anyone have an OEM key shell break in less than 5 years?

I had to laugh. I saw this thread right after my key broke on a recent road trip.(5500 miles and just got back yesterday, i will have a thread up on my cruiser soon)) I am in the machining industry and was thinking about making an aluminum one and doing a hard coat anodize. It would be a bit of work to get programmed and setup but might be worth it. Would a lot of people be interested?

Thinking the same. I think there would be some dimensional forgiveness though. Just hit the high points. The z plane contouring could probably be sacrificed.

Oh. And, I would be in for 2 or 3 :)
