So, just for fun...
The idea is to put this into an FJ40.

If this belongs in Chit-Chat then I don't mind if a Mod moves it.

I think that putting a large displacement V12 into a 40 series 'Cruiser would be just insane. And Insanely fun, built correctly.

Mercedes makes a 6 liter V12 w/ twin turbos (!) and it makes 604 hp at 4800-5100 rpm with 738 ft·lbf of torque at 2000-4000 rpm.

About all this motor is available in is a RWD car so I figure put in some sort of divorced T-case to the Automatic transmission.

The idea is to run a FJ40 on the freeway to, example, Moab, wheel the piss out of the rig on some tough trails, and then run home.

What T-case and gearing would be used?
203/205?
AtlasII?

What axles? Rockwells with some Ouverson engineering upgrade?
609's w/ 40 splines?

This is a 'tomorrow I won the lottery and/or I become independently wealthy and no expense needs to be spared' type of thing.

It would be fun until you had to purchase a coil pack for that v-12 motor. But I suppose of you are wealthy anything is possible. I LOVE mercedes but would never run such a complex motor on any trail.

I figure a V12 like that would be the ideal between having the low end torque like a straight 6 and the horsepower of a V8.

Just my $.02 :hhmm: If you are dreaming of horsepower the 2JZ-GTE I6 out of a Toyota Supra. The attraction comes from the easily upgraded power output, 450 - 500 horsepower can be had out of the stock turbos with a free flowing intake and exhaust system coupled with an aftermarket boost controller.

Then you can buy an adapter for the transmission and mount the gear driven Toyota T-case to it and do 4.70 low gear. This option would save money, weight and room in the engine compartment.

My biggest issue with the 2JZ is that while you can make a bunch of horsepower, you have the rev the SNOT out of the motor for the turbos to spool and make the hp, but torque is the name of the game here.

I like the Merc V12 because it makes a s***load of torque accross a broad rpm range 2000-4000 rpms.

Realistically speaking, a TBI 383 stroker motor would be more than adequate for my purposes.

But I'm dreaming here. :D

V12 in a 40 has been done. That Merc makes a bit more horsepower then the Jag does though.

Yeah, I was looking at your thread about it.
I have seen that some of the Jag V12's came with a TH400 automatic transmission, which would be pretty easy to adapt to a 'Cruiser t-case (or really, any t-case). But I have also read that you wouldn't do it again.

Bill Harrah's '77 Wagoneer with a Ferrari V12 in it. It's in the Int'l Auto Museum in Reno.

with double toy box on 4.7 there is not and issue .. just stupid low and run it over 4k rpm all the way ..

No I wouldn't do it again, not starting from where I did on that one. Now, if a V12 merc were to show up on my doorstep and it was close enough on dimensions to fit, I would retire the Jag and keep myself busy for another 25 years.

For the price of that one merc v12 you can have yourself a mountain motor built and still have money left over to buy the axles your going to need

You can pick up S600s in the UK for under £5000. If you're lucky parting the rest of the car out minus the engine might get you most of that 5k back. The supercharged AMG 55 V8 is a more fun engine, but the 600 V12 is made to be smoother and with more built in tolerance - should last forever.

EG Yr 2000 S600 complete car asking £4950 or offers.
