Looking to have my 1976 f2 Motor rebuilt but need to find the right guy to do it. Does anyone know who in Memphis , TN. or surrounding area would be the best, or just any motor shop would be fine.

A full day's drive from you is Jim C. (FJ40Jim), in Lancaster, OH. You won't find a better shop.

Can't believe it, another memphis guy! The machine shop I used to go to here is no longer open. My f1.5 got rebuilt when I was i la for a few years. It was convenient living next to manafre and spector. I will ask around though.

Thanks for the help not easy to find anyone so I will just start to call around. Thanks for the info.:)

Sorry not to have chimed in. I do not know of any shops in the memphis area but here are some suggestions. Try posting over on the cottonland cruisers site, they are in your area. TPI is out of Nashville and may have some ideas on shops near to you. If you go local, talk to your parts shops like Napa with some old hands that know the machine shops in your area. Your trusted mechanic for your daily driver is also a good resource. If there are specialty 4x4 truck shops, they probably have a line on who does good rebuilds. I also find that asking folks who are dirt track racers about who can do engine rebuilds gets some good feedback. The racers will probably give you shops that are more on the high end as they are after performance. Since the f/2f is very much like a tractor engine, a tractor dealer may know of good shops.

When you get a list of rebuild shops, I'd do a search on this forum to see what concerns & insights others have had. A list of questions and ideas about what you want out of the rebuild when you go talk to them in person is always a plus. Some shops will not pull the engine, so you'll have to get your mechanic to do it. A good shop will usually warrenty the rebuild for 6 months/ 6000 miles. Also! Get the engine balanced!!! It costs extra, but is well worth it.

Good luck!
