Don't forget that a hood prop rod from an FJ62 fits perfectly. 20 bucks in parts from your friendly Toyota dealer (prop rod, holder, grommet).

I will replace my shocks too, I just thought it was cool to do it and I gave up beer for Lent.

You can pick up the jam nut in stainless at Home Depot for under a dollar for a pack of 8.

I tried to go this route with Cdan, but the parts are no longer available new. You'll have to go the salvage yard route to do this.

FWIW I ordered a pair of hatch struts off Australian Ebay for $60 shipped. They arrived in a week and work perfectly.

as long as you don't hit your head on the hatch ever again,
...even if you save 3 bucks minus the nuts,
replace your slack struts.

x2! Front is much worse than the rear, but am tempted to replace both anyway. After 19 years..... Right now the rear hatch stays up just fine. Front needs assistance from a nice piece of wood to prop it up!

HOW do you remove the "old" hatch struts? I ordered the same McMasters a couple of weeks ago but couldn't figure out how to get the originals removed......?????

I'm guessing you cut off and remove the pressed on pin/stud, then bolt on the ball joint into the remaining hole.
