We're selling our 1996 HZJ73 Land Cruiser, a Japanese import that's been part of our family since mid-2022. It served as my wife’s daily driver until a few months ago, when we replaced it with a firetruck conversion 4-door HZJ75.

Key Details:

  • Engine: 1HZ 4.2L Diesel
  • Transmission: H55F 5-speed manual
  • Mileage: 120,000 miles
  • Features: Factory limited-slip differentials, roll bar, FRP top

Condition & Restoration:

This Land Cruiser has been meticulously cared for with plans to keep it long-term. Highlights include:
  • Full body restoration to address any rust, using proper old-school welding with patch panels (no quick Bondo fixes).
  • Custom paintwork in Land Cruiser Dune Beige (416), accented with Touge Nation stripes from Australia. While the paint came out great, it’s not museum-level and shows minor imperfections from daily use. Photos documenting the bodywork and paint process are available.
  • Replaced door seals, fold-down windshield seal, and windshield during restoration.

Recent Maintenance:

  • Timing belt replaced ~10,000 miles ago
  • New brakes and wheel bearings
  • Air conditioning and heating work flawlessly

Upgrades & Features:

  • Upgraded sound system
  • Rear seat equipped with shoulder belts (important if you have kids!)

Price:

We’ve have put over $40,000 into this Land Cruiser. Asking $36,000, but we’re open to reasonable offers. Shipping from Maui to the West Coast US is included in the price.

We love this LandCruiser and hope to find someone who will care for it like we have. Feel free to reach out for more details or to discuss further.
Thanks for looking!

Beauty! Saw a fair share of kei vehicles on Maui last month when we visited, one hiace and one 70series red pump truck converted to flatbed. Wonder if it was yours I saw just outside Kihei.

I explored shipping to/from mainland options and was seeing ~$4-5k to Tacoma.

wish you best of luck on the sale.

Just checked with Pasha and shipping to Seattle from Maui should be $2140, or $1740 to Oakland.
Happy to split shipping costs if anyone needs it sent to the mainland.

That’s a much better number than I managed to find.

That looks like the truck I remember!

Killer quiver

Thank you! We daily them and have poured our heart and soul (and just about every dollar) into them but can't justify having 4 70s.

Pasha and Young Brothers are the two companies that handle the majority of shipping from Hawaii to the West Coast, Pasha also does direct residential deliveries but I'd have to call them for a quote.

Just seeing that the dark grey one is a double cab truck too
Long story short, we’ve been daily driving 2 HZJ73s for a couple years and fell in love with them, but really wanted a 4-door truck version with AC and Power Steering. We ended up finding 2 HZJ75s this year that fit that criteria, one with the high roof still and one with a chopped roof. Been driving those now most days.

Does the AC function? (asking cause, you mentioned you had been looking for a truck with AC, maybe this isn't working) What's the undercarriage look like on this rig? Is the suspension stock? Did it ever come with a spare tire carrier on the door?

AC and heat work great! The firetruck conversion trucks often didn’t have AC and power steering, they came standard on these mid wheel base models.
I’ll get some pictures of the undercarriage posted, and I have the spare tire carrier but don’t keep it on while daily driving, it’s included with the sale though. And yes, suspension is stock.

Here you go!

Feel free to call and I can FaceTime to show anything else you’d like to see. 325-260-7436.

would you consider shipping to Panama?
That wouldn’t be a problem on my end but I’m not familiar with what’s required in terms of paperwork. I have the Hawaii Title, Registration, etc, but I can’t take responsibility for local customs or import requirements.

I'm looking into it now. Might be better for me to receive it in the US and ship it to Panama myself to register later
