I'm reading up on the many threads dedicated to solving parking brake and brake pressure circuits and warning lights. From the harness over the driver side washer fluid container, my 77 had a black wire connected to the fuel cutoff solenoid and a red wire going to nothing. Is it safe to think the red wire was for the brake pressure sensors? See the bottom right of this photo.

Got to love previous owners! No wire hacking in my rig, just everything painted red....fuse panel, shifter boots, wire harness, steering column, you name it, it got colored red. I can't look at a red 40 without sweating.

That snappy looking new washer bottle decal is not painted red

Funny story about the washer bottle. It was painted red. I spent hours cleaning it, and getting the original washer pump working only to mistakenly step on it and crack it! So, that is a replacement.

Sorry for the threadjack, but here is an example before and after; nothing replaced just a lot of cleaning....Who paints this red???

how the heck do u get off car paint like that o_O

i have over spray on more then a few nylon electrical connectors im trying to salvage

- no thread jack intended either , since wires are often painted maybe its related

Aircraft paint remover. Spray cans worked best for me. I had a station set up. Toothbrushes, small containers, etc. Spray the stuff on plastic, rubber, metal, let it sit for a bit, scrub it and rinse it off. Brake parts cleaner on some stuff. Sometimes nuts and bolts would take two cleanings. Great part is it didnt remove the CAD finish on fasteners. Notice you can still see the original red and blue writing on the rubber hoses. When scrubbing dont let the stuff splash on your face....it burns.

You are bringing up some bad memories!

I seem to remember having one of those wires once... haven’t seen it in more than 27 years... don’t remember what happened to it.

Soda blasting will also remove paint over spray from parts and if you keep the pressure low, it will not harm plastic stuff.

Seems like air craft paint remover would dissolve most plastics?

Midlife1977, I can make your FJ40 an all new sub-harness for your brake pressure sensors including the sensor connectors for $12.00 shipped to your door. Send an email to fj40coolerman at gmail dot com with your address

$12! That is a deal for OEM look.

I didnt have any issues with the paint remover on the plastic connectors or the wiring. I agree it probably isnt good, but I didnt have a lot of good choices, and it was my last resort. I would leave it on for just long enough to loosen the overspray then scrub and rinse well. Contacts were cleaned with contact cleaner and light scraping. Of course any questionable stuff was replaced with @Coolerman replacement parts.

BTW ,

I sourced My 2 Grey New sensor connectors From @Coolerman , He has plenty of High quality electrical parts to offer :)

Thanks Coolerman! I just ordered a fusible link from you also. The harness appears to be ok, but will know for sure after replacing my battered parking brake switch. BTW I’m using the sensor connectors you sent me a few months ago!

i cant find a home for the blue wire coming out by the brake pressure sensors:
