I think that this particular subject has been discussed in the past. I have a 1958 Toyopet that some of you have all ready seen at one of the shows. My master and clutch cylinders are mounted on the firewall side by side and they are a triangular in shape and I had them restored by White post in Virginia not cheap but the best once you get them back. I am having a problem with the clutch cylinder if I put the pedal to the floor the inside rod doesn't retract back soon enough and doesn't have any fluid inside if I remove the big nut . I suspect that the seals are not doing the job. Or how is the fluid traveling to the back side,is it through the small holes on the pistons. So I am looking for a pair of these seals if you know of anyone with an extra set. The body on both of mine are like a cast iron reservoir with a rubber cap and they are a triangular in shape I assume that the early 1960 style stout maybe the same. If someone could post a picture of the style that you have in your 1959 and later Land Cruisers so that I can see if it is the same as my 58 Toyopet.

Thanks

Thanks for the pictures they look similar to the ones in the picture but more square. I took my reservoir for the clutch out of the car and cleaned it all out and did not see any problem inside. I will put it back together and bench test it before I reinstall it. Originally I had send it back to white post and they charged me another $125.00 for testing it.

Thanks

did you check your slave cyl?

it could be bound-up preventing the slaves piston from moving? pushing past the master because the slave is stuck...never found this on a tlc ...but have seen the same thing happen on old british junk :)

Thanks for all your help I am trying to get this problem solved before the 12th of October as I will be taking my 1958 Toyopet to the all Japanese car show in Irvine Calif. My question is I have a new clutch slave cylinder installed and I am trying to figure out how is the brake fluid getting from the bowl to the back side of the main reservoir to proceed to the slave. Is it traveling through the thin washer and by the seal or is it through the three small holes on the main piston. Please let me know I will also do a bench check before installing it back in the car.

Thanks!!

I found the problem with my clutch reservoir I had the main clutch pedal rod to far in on the adjustment and it was not retracting back flush to be able and get the fluid to the back through the 4 small holes in the piston. Now everything is working well.

Thanks
