I followed your Alaskan trek with deep envy, never knew this much about your rig. Great work, very impressive and awesome truck.

Would you do another frame swap? If you would, would you just swap the 60 body on and leave the rest 80? Or would you do motor and everything still?

If I was to do it all over again..
I would put a diesel engine into that pig.... an Isuzu engine like some of them foos have done here.. pretty sweet MPG numbers......
Or put this: 1HD-T (4.2L 6cyl Toyota turbo diesel)H151F 5 speed manual transmission and HF1A part time transfer case.

Like this guy did.....

I would also change the motor mounts and put the gas tank in the middle of the frame..... to distribute the weight "more better".....:hillbilly:

But, I'll just enjoy my rig for now..

Great Rig!!!

:)

Beautiful rig man! And it drives like a dream too!!!!!!!

let me know when you are headed to Argentina!

Came out awesome!!!
Beautiful!
I didnt know that you did an 80 frame on that!? Very cool!!!!

Manuchao,

Great truck. Your thread may have finally inspired me to post one of my own. I notice a similar evolution (and timing) of the (ongoing) build of my FJ60 and yours. Bought it in 2002 (low miles but barely driveable). Did a fairly extensive overhall but realized it was ridiculously underpowered for our uses so did a V8 conversion (nothing as extreme as a frame swap though). We also have a trailer but are considering going to non-trailer based camping as it looks like you have.

Here's a not so recent photo (missing the WKOR sliders, the winch, and a few miscellaneous goodies):

is that fan shroud home-brewed or robbed from another vehicle?

Its a Lincoln MK. VIII fan.

N cut to fit......
That's the FORD in it....:crybaby:

ok...sorry I should have noticed the notes with the pic. (RE Electric fan)

How do you like the performance of the fan? Seems like they would be a good solution based on various threads and information and the stock OEM use.

one other question....did you end up moving your engine futher to the rear (closer to the firewall) that it was on the other frame?

Elbert, I never had an electric fan before so nothing to compare it to..
But this fan has not let me down for the past 4 years during the summer...
I run it with a Delta current controller and I like it a lot...but like any electrical system it is only as good as the alternator....Good thing its a 160 amp alt.

Re: engine placement.
I did try to move the engine back about 3/4" but it was way too close to the fire wall, so I went back to my original plan and measure 10 times and welded only twice. Engine (head (rear) )is about 1" from the fire wall (at its closest point). This still gives me plenty room if I ever want to run a mech fan, which I just might (when the electric fan takes a crap in the middle of nowhere.)

ok...If I end up changing transmissions we are going to move the engine back to give some more room between the radiator core and front of engine so a shroud would be easier to work with/design and allow for additoinal room in general to the front of teh engine. I think you have your engine about right in my view. Good thing about those next generation V-8's...you don't have a dist to worry about in regard to the firewall.
