So I got my first FZJ80 about 3 weeks ago, and I've been reading the boards a lot. I am pretty handy and can fix most obvious car problems, save for electrical and AC. I was wondering what tools you all keep in your truck all the time? I'm mainly wanting to know which tools tend to be used a lot on Landcruisers- Today I picked up a 24mm Wrench and a 15/16 6point socket for tricky Diff plugs. Do y'all see yourself using any other "oddball" tools often?

Welcome to Mud! You seem to be asking two questions. Everyday tools for me consists of the factory tool kit, multi meter, and Leatherman. Oddball tools I would not carry as an everyday thing.

Ah I guess you're right. My first car was a 1975 Jeep Wagoneer (in 2001) and I got used to carrying a lot of tools on me. Like a baseball bat to knock the starter into gear a few times, or a big screwdriver to jump the starter solenoid from under the hood on occasion.

I guess Landcruisers might prove to be a little easier than a jeep? :D

Snacks in the Engle and 40 S&W in the console.

Actually I of have a basic metric socket set, metric gear wrenches and a few other basic hand tools at all times in the back, not much weight.

And since you're in Colorado, I trust you're only loading 5 rounds in your 13 round magazine..... you know.... for the children....

Metric Gearwrenches, one fan belt(easy to stash), leatherman, bit type screwdriver, factory tool kit, fire extinguisher. Never have needed any of it, but the day I leave it all home is probably gonna be the day I need something...;)

I owned a couple of Jeep Cherokees for over 10 years. I found myself getting stuck all the time needing odd tools (i.e torx bits, allen sockets, ect), and not to mention the combination of metric and SAE bolts all over the place.
Toyotas really made this very simple (they created LEAN thinking), and it almost seems that with 10MM, 12MM, 14MM, and a 17MM wrench and sockets you can get to most of everything. Off course other common tools like hammer, screwdrivers, ect are needed, but for trail or road fixes you don't need much - that is if your ever need it off course as these vehicles are very reliable.

I carry my tool bag all the time. it's about 30 lb.
pretty sure I could do most anything. I do have split ring pliers in there but not the big 54mm spindle nut socket. on the trail I have often done the nut on my old 84 hilux with a hammer and chisel.

rescue tape is always good to have...I need to get some

I need to put together basic parts like belts, hoses ect.

I have a minivan and a phone to call my wife when the Jeep breaks. Which, on average, is about twice a month.
