Made my last call to Scott Clark this afternoon

Following Grand Master Dave roadstr6 advise, went to Town and Country to get an original cut key as my ignition tumbler was acting up. But first, called Scott Clark, then Hendricks, then T&C.
  • Scott Clark: they can do it, have to order the keys as they dont have any, and will be just under $50 and will be next week, Monday at the earliest.
  • Hendricks in Concord: "dude, I dont know, we need to remove the passenger door cylinder to get the key code, might take some time, and I don't know if we have keys like that. But when the manager comes in, I will call you back with details, this the best number to reach you? okay, will call you at 8:15" Still no call at 12:00.
  • Town and Country: Yes, we can do it, about $16 for the Toyota key, bring registration and your license, we send a request to Toyota and get authorization in about 10 mins, we can do it anytime.
T&C, Paul took care of me, $16.09. Made some more copies at Lowes, and was able to use the key on the tailgate for the first time, ever. And the ignition tumbler works like silk.

That's very strange on the Scott Clark front there. I had a brand new key cut for my cruiser and my sisters truck.... was about $27 out the door for both.

Just seach for the Toyota Parts Catalog (used to be a sticky on our site but someone keeps moving it) and find the part numbers. Parts guys love it, it helps them out and solves the naming issue. Never had a problem with Fred Anderson or Apex (Hendrick) Toyota getting the part I need.

Toyota of hickory, did mine for the 80 , old oem key was so worn out , none of the copies would work any of the locks.

Still waiting for Hendricks to call me back. Joking aside, I have plenty of experience with Hendricks dealerships. Sales are typically good, but unless I know the service guys.... avoid avoid avoid.

Has been a while since this thread , but I had the pleasure of calling Scott Clark this morning, time for air filter for the 250. I had the part number, so was ready. Called parts, part number was good but sounded like a lot of uncertainty, they needed the vin for the ‘24 Land Cruiser. Keep in mind every single one in the US has the same engine. So yes, they had one, $55. No thank you.

Called Ourisma in WV, $19 and will be here next week. They have been my go to recently since CLT dealers are in love with their parts. Scott Clark…..I can walk there from my house, why are their prices so crazy?

I used to cringe when people called dealerships "stealerships" after having good experiences. They are all stealerships to me now after years in abusive relationships LOL - but I applaud those who support us and try - if they support us and try, awesome. I buy a ton of parts from Hendrick of Apex online during sales, but I could probably never buy a car there. The Toyota in Mt Airy seems awesome - but that is a LONG ways to drive :). Modern Toyota took over for Toyota of Asheboro and is like the rest now - maybe a little better. I can't say enough bad things about Fred Anderson as a dealer, but their Raleigh parts department have been awesome - just too far to drive now.

There is a reason: all NC Toyota dealerships must, by contractual agreement, buy their parts from South East Toyota (SET). Same for Texas; they're locked into an agreeement with Gulf States Toyota. There once was a third setup on the west coast, but it folded some time ago. The only dealerships which are allowed to buy parts directly from Toyota are the ones not contractually obligated to SET or GST. That's why Ourisman Toyota in Richmond, VA can sell their parts so cheaply: they're buying them cheaply. And, Toyota gives them volume parts sales rebates, so, the more parts they sell, the more money they make. No southern dealership can compete with them.

Curious.
I get different pricing and certainly experiences with different dealers in the central Texas area.

Dealers are able to set their own prices, but they can't set the price they pay for parts. I would be very surprised if any southern dealership would be willing to sell below their cost. I don't kow what GST markup is, but SET's markup is above 30% over what they buy parts from Toyota for. I just had this conversation with a parts department manager at a Charlotte dealership yesterday. When I showed him the parts prices on Ourisman (Richmond, VA) Toyota's online website, he almost died.

Ive made a handful of purchases from ourisman as well. They seem to have some of the best prices out here. Fast shipping too.
Before that I ordered online from Stevenson Toyota in golden, CO...but that was also local pickup at the time.

I used to be a BIG fan of FA in Raleigh given it's close and a good experience with their used car dealership side. Obligatory recap: I got hosed when they didn't honor an email sale I placed an order through thinking they'd adjust the order price to their advertisement no problem. This didn't happen despite my emails to their parts manager and her response.

No problem, lesson learned - I've used Hendrick and Leith Toyota parts without issue since and will continue to do so going forward. Good to know about Scott Clark being a no go for this given bad experiences, I'll save my time. Mistakes happen, I get this. What separates good from bad businesses is how they handle these mistakes. Good businesses should be supported and elevated, bad businesses should be left to reap what they sow.

When I was shopping for my 200, Mt. Airy was AWESOME to deal with - I can't remember my salesman's name or the sales manager, but both were great. They were quick to respond, super courteous and pleasant to talk to, but ultimately couldn't order a 200 for me (as they were planning on doing - GREAT people IMO) given Toyota switching to the 300 platform. They will be my first call whenever it's time for me to buy another Toyota given this interaction.

Great to know about the WV dealer. I'll check them out next time I need something and it'd be gravy if they had the 25% off sale to stack on top.

Scott Clark sells a lot of cars. Scott Clark is great to deal with if you are buying a car. Scott Clark has no interest in peddling parts to folks like us who are trying to keep old Toyotas alive. I get the impression that we are just too much of a hassle to them to bother with attempting to provide reasonable pricing and decent customer service in the parts department. I buy my parts elsewhere.

Scott Clark's parts counter is the worst I've ever dealt with. If by some chance they're still involved with ONSC we should cut ties.

I drive to Concord if I need to pick something up quickly, or use Fred Anderson (Raleigh) or Serra (AL) with discount codes if I can wait for shipping.

Town & Country has always done well by me, but I've spent many hours (and dollars) there developing the relationship. Not that I care to plug Bruton's business at all, but If I need something tomorrow, that's where I go to get it. If I can wait, I buy from Ourisman in Richmond; their prices are far below any NC dealer's prices, because they don't have to fool with SET.

I had one great experience buying timing belt kit and water pump at Scott Clark's when I was traveling back in NC around 2014/2015. I tried buying parts from a Ohio Toyota dealership. Then was talked into aftermarket CV axles by a "trusted local cruiser" shop. After replacing both CVs less than 5k with OEM while on a road trip, I went searching for where to buy Toyota parts at a reasonable price. I stumbled upon McGeorge Toyota dealership and their online ordering. I have ordered TB kits, cv axles, steering rack, etc. Their customer service people are top-notch. I was worried when Ourisman bought them, but so far they have my business.
