hey folks My M12000 quit working this morning as I was checking stuff for Gsmtr. It would not free spool so I ran it out some , tested in both directions fine . Then i put it under load to respool and only solenoid clicking . I have good voltage at the motor housing. I yanked the line off in freespool mode with another vehicle. just to get it out of the way ( fininagled it off the arb on the 80 . Is there a quick fix or am I looking at a lengthy rebuild and ordering parts. . Also whats a good winch to maybe replace it with from Warn .
Thanks

if it wouldn't free spool, it probably would be best to tear it down.
that said. you could pull the solenoid pack off and hot wire the motor direct to verify the failure.

also how is the winch actually grounded?

yep i hot wired it and also double checked the grounds. Good voltage through the solenoids too. Is there a simple fix or is it normally a wait for parts project? i was planning on rolling out Tuesday and i work tomorrow
thanks

if the motor is fubar, youre kind of dead in the water.
the gearbox is pretty easy to pull and clean up.

My M12000 quit last fall and all I needed to do was replace the motor. Summitt had them at a good price and quick shipping. My winch has been on for 16-18 years and water had entered the motor housing leading to corrosion. When I installed the new motor I add some FIPG to places where I thought water could enter.

Sweet thanks all it got a tractor supply traveller for the weekend. 2 pulls no issue.
I had to shim the mounts and the fair lead doesn’t separate so you need your old one for arb. Or like me I respooled it n used synthetic
Will tear down m12000 soon

You may have one or more bad solenoids too. They are easy to check.
