Here is day two from our last trip. I got denied on the last hill climb as did everyone else. I did make it most of the way up but caught the rear axle on a slab rock at the top on the right line and could not drag it over it. Oh well, I should not have been on that line anyway! All in all it was a great trip with some good people and a little bit of rain. Lynchburg did great! I still have a few minor things I want to do but this thing wheels better than I imagined. With that said I can not wait to get the race car back out and do some stuff at speed but this sure is a whole lot more relaxing.

Just wanted to say I love this build! Love the theme! I have roots in Long Island, VA. My grandfather plastered most of VA. My dad still works in Lynchburg.

I dig what you're doing man. I have watched your builds for years. Keep on Truckin!!!

New front ornament!

A few updates. I added a contactor and new 9.5 motor to the 8274 Warn winch.

Then headed down to the Relic Run and wheel! Wheeled every trail up and down with no issues.

Relaxed with friends at the Relic show. Caught this shot on way home. Jason has a nice 45.

How do you like your Orion? My rig is going to Valley Hybrids in Septmeber for some work and I'm currently planning on getting my H42 rebuilt, Orion installed, and changing the diff ratios from 4:11 to 3:70 for easier highway cruising.

So far so good. I would do the twin sticks. Much better shifting. The OE set up had a lot of slop in it compared to the twin sticks. No issues with it this weekend. I lugged it up hill and down. I never had an issue with it popping out of any gears. It did pop out of 4wd a few times when I had the OE shifter in.

Thank you for the info. I do want to keep my stock shifter set-up. I'm trying to get as much information on the Orion as I can before my rig gets worked on. Reliability is always #1 with me, my 40 is my daily driver, and I often go wheeling solo.
I'm also going to visit Advance Adapters and ask some questions, they're here in my town.

I have had a little drip from the oil pan that did not go away after snugging the bolts up. New Toyota oil pan gasket going in. After 54 years the stock gasket put up a fight coming off. It was also a good chance to clean the black gold from inside the pan.

Wish I had put two and two together and made time to chat and check this 40 out when we were on the trail together in NC!

I have not done much but drive and wheel this over the past year or so. I have decided to pull the mighty 2F out and put in a TBI 350.

I am doing this for multiple reasons.
1. A friend needs and really wanted my proven 2F.

2. I pulled the 350 out of my stretched40 project to put a 6.0 LS and it needed a home.

3. I wanted fuel injection

4. It will be mostly plug and play since I pulled it out of a running tuck that I had.

Let the hate begin!!!!

I would say “welcome to the dark side” but you were there LONG before me. In hindsight, I wish I’d gone TBI instead of a carb on my 350, but I do love the trail repairability and simplicity of carburation.

I wrote an article for Toyota Trails about that very thing 17 years ago, called Limiting Vulnerability. It’s still interesting to me 17 years later how many people don’t understand manifold vacuum, perceiving carburetors as voodoo to the point of finding fool infection less vulnerable.

More like welcome back! I put my first 350 in back in 97'. I have been dropping Chevy engines in Toyotas for years. The TBI system is very simple and does not take much to run. I had a TBI 4.3 in my 4Runner for 12 years with no issues. It ran upside down too! I like that it uses off the shelf parts that can be found at most parts stores. The Sniper may be a great system but not one I want in the backwoods area that we travel. Maybe for around town driving where AAA can come get you.
