I took Cherry Bomb out for a drive to run around and pick up some things and more paint. It always brings a smile to see a little boy tug on his daddy's arm and point to it and smile! I even had a lady tell me it was cute.. This is why I build them. Smiles per mile!

I finally had a few hours to get back in the shop. I found out why the brake light stopped working! Good thing I have a stockpile of parts in my stretch project to borrow from!

I got the back end wrapped up. Now for the interior.

I pulled the Metaltech cage out of my stretched40 project with my new shop tool today! Then I unloaded some fun!

Not much to show but seats fit. I need to blast this out in the next few weeks to get ready for the Relic Run!

You driving it or towing it? I’m dying to get down there on year but a 7 hour drive in a FJ40 I plan to abuse then drive me home is a pretty daunting prospect - not to mention the 80 or so gallons of gas it would require round trip.

Towing...I am too old for that driving it thing. I remember driving to Telico, wheeling and then patching it together to drive home. That was almost 12 hours. After rolling my 4runner in Florida during the Warn Safari Triathlon in 1999, then driving it home, I bought a trailer and tow rig. Flat towing sucks too.

Happy Easter everyone. I am social distancing myself and working on my Easter Egg! I could not put the cage in without painting the dash and windshield frame. Not too bad for a "trail rig".

Soft top is mostly on. I ran into some frozen pins in the door hinges. I will let them soak overnight and try again.

Let the fun begin! I resealed my extra H41 transmission and will assemble the Orion to that. Then I will pull the H41 combo out that is in it and swap this in. That one will be posted up for sale later.

While in the mood to build a transfercase I decided to strip out a NP205 that I have to build for a customer. I will swap the front output from 10 spline to 32 spline to accept a 1350 cardian joint.

While looking at all the parts on the floor, I thought about how big the idler shaft is in the 205 case. Now this is a one ton case than Ford, Dodge, and GM used so it would have to be strong. It measured out at 34.9mm. Sooooo the 34mm split case can not be that bad, right? Everyone talks about how you have to have the 38mm case to be super strong. I think the 34 would be just fine behind a 2F or a v-8. The one piece case like the Orion use about a 25mm idler shaft, just for reference.

Went out for a drive today after a fill up. Stopped and said "hi" to another Rustoleum brother up at the shop. Great day for a drive!
