This topic is of key interest to me. I plan to carry a couple of 3 gallon rotopacs, but this would be a much better solution.

Thanks -- looking forward to your analysis--big fail to have such a small tank, and noway do I believe that the real world LX 700h mileage is better than 13-14 mpg. My 200 is barely there.
I did average 20.3 MPG on a 400 mile trip from Missoula MT to Seattle at 75-80MPH in my 700H Overtrail. MUCH better than my 200.

I got my LXh this past week. Looks like this is 100% doable if we can get the hardware.

I’m getting 16MPG on my first 400miles with 285/75R18 Toyo Open Country AT3 tires

On a side note that is a tall ass tire. Same tire they run on the Ford Tremor Super Duty. Do you have pics? Curious to see what that looks like.

It works, slightest rub at hard reverse.

How did you achieve this? I’ve done Montana to Idaho twice in my 700 OT and am getting 16.5 running on eco mode lol

Well...not sure just set ECO mode and cruise control...lol. I got 325 miles on a the tank before the annoying light come on. (Filled up with 16 gallons)

Just got back yesterday from another trip to Missoula. I set the Trip when I filled up at Pilot, Exit 2 in Post falls and then refilled at Costco in Puyallup. Interestingly, when I filled up this time the “range” said 310 miles. There you go! (Cruise set at 75 MPH.

That's really not bad and it looks like you still had about 20 miles or so left (or even more if the LX is as conservative as the 200 in terms of that refuel light turning on). That said, man the price for that premium gas is hurting.

Yeah! And that’s from Costco! Washington is almost as stupid as California with the gas taxes. Now they want to also bill you “by the mile” every year on top of it when you renew your tabs. (Too many people switched to EVs so they are losing revenue.) SMH

Don't forget the RTA tax if you're in the zone.

@Eric Sarjeant and I are working to finalize the parts list.

Stay tuned, it will not be without some minor bolt on work or fabrication.

Why in the world would Lexus/Toyota not offer this secondary tank in the US? I think there was a similar deal with the 200s too, where they offered a secondary tank in the ME and not stateside.

My guess is:
  • Deemed unnecessary as our fuel infrastructure is vast and mature.
  • At least another 100# to curb weight.
  • Fractional increase to profit for USDM trucks.
  • Perhaps DOT regulation would have required additional emissions considerations.

Typically, JDM LC's reserved the highest bling level for thier own market. But even they didn't get the auxiliary fuel tanks.
