Late last night I got an E-mail that the dealer (SoCal area) had actually received the LX700h OT the night before. I haven't been tracking at all, so was a bit surprised. Much like with the GX, I'm not as in-tune as others, so my only evidence that this isn't vaporware is the VIN I see on the allocation sheet.

Will try to get in tomorrow and see it for myself and try to answer some of my outstanding questions. Still feel like this vehicle is a bit of a mystery, even after binge watching all of the videos released last week that were shot on the winery off-road course. Trying to come in with an open mind, but worried that a lot of the issues I have with the GX remain on this vehicle. And really would rather have a two-row and not black interior, so one potential outcome is I hold out for that before making the decision. But if this one really grows on me I'll give it a chance.

No one single major issue, but just so many little annoying details that seem to point out they never bothered look at how someone would use it off-road (my only reason to own either the GX or LX). And out on a trip when one shows up right after the other it just really adds up and gets frustrating. Off the top of my head: putting the GX into 4LO initiates nag warnings that let you dismiss them, only to show up 10 seconds later, very tight trying to get out past the folded seats while camping in the back, the switches for the interior lights stop responding after 20 minutes even if you wake up in the middle of the night and need the lights (this one is confirmed inherited in the LX manual), the nav won't stay in north-up when you're trying to compare your route on a traditional map, the useless fake engine sounds that can't be disabled (managed to fix that with the aftermarket, but the dealers could never remove it), truly bad/cheap disappointing Mark Levinson, could go on.

No one the end of the world, and seems like just whining, but just add up when you want to feel good about a new purchase. And worse that Lexus seems to not care, and ignored the one complaint I did contact them with (the ML issue). And maybe they don't have to, as they're selling. The joke on the GX forum is the use case is to cruise the Starbucks parking lot, so maybe I'm just the wrong customer.

By comparison, I still love my last generation LS, and basically only one mildly annoying design issue I can think of. Based on my GX experience alone, I'm never upgrading to their new one.

Still, honestly trying to come at this LX700h with an open mind, despite part of me not wanting to reward Lexus with more of my money after the GX. Will see.

To get rid of the warnings in 4lo, turn off PCS under driver assists in the infotainment screen. You will need to be stopped to do that. I'm sure the LX will have the same warning messages that the GX has.

Amplified engine noises can be turned off in Techstream, sucks Lexus didn't know how to do it.

Yeah, thanks, luckily I'd read about that here before my first long off road trip, but it's still annoying to have to dive down menus just to put it into 4LO, or more importantly that they won't just let you acknowledge it then leave you alone, like all the other nags it throws at you.

But, I tried it just now on the LX700h and it seemed to actually leave me alone after I acknowledged it the first time! Maybe it would have come on again like on the GX if I'd actually driven it around - was just parked, as I didn't want to drive on pavement in 4WD on a test drive, forgetting that the center diff locking is no longer linked to 4LO on these things.

EDIT: Checked the same thing on the GX while parked, and it did its normal thing of complaining again 10 seconds after canceling. So think it's safe to chock that up as an actual upgrade/fix on the LX700h side.

Those warnings are a broader modern Toyota issue vs just the LX or GX (and may be on the late model 200s as well?). If it comes back, just turn off pre-collision. Make it part of your air-down ritual.

Did you get your hands on the LX7?

All my complaints on the GX were resolved by the LX600 when I took it on a 2hr test drive.

I am 99% sure that on the 200 once you put in 4LO, the PCS is automatically disabled and it tells you in the screen. Why they did not do the same with the Prado is a mystery to me.

Those warnings are a broader modern Toyota issue vs just the LX or GX (and may be on the late model 200s as well?). If it comes back, just turn off pre-collision. Make it part of your air-down ritual.

I'll give them the CYA lawyer warnings, and OK with acknowledging them and moving on, but the issue with that specific one on the GX is that when acknowledged it just comes back after 10 seconds over and over. It's just a bug, but Lexus doesn't address it, and in general points out their general attitude that even at this price level they don't care about their customers' experience. Fortunately this little issue seems to have been fixed in the LX700h, from my quick test.

For me, a lot of similarities, with more difference showing up on the drive. Re-drove the same route (obviously no off road) right after in the GX, spent the night comparing notes.

I'm going to pass on this configuration, as the 3-row doesn't have enough cargo room for me and will be a deal-breaker. I still only have seen a fuzzy clip of the 2-row, so will have to wait for the configuration before making the final call. I was the first on the list, and this was the first vehicle they got, but at this price will wait until I can get the configuration I actually want, like I did with the GX.

Sorry, I never owned the 100 or 200 because I didn't want to lose having all three lockers (in the US), so don't have a good comparison.

I forgot to get a feel for how solid it felt from the outside (doors, hood, etc.), but from the test drive the LX700h handled the engine noise better than the GX550 so more insulated, but maybe not as well as my previous generation LS. It was raining, so didn't honestly notice a difference in road noise. Was actually a little surprised driving the same course in the GX that it wasn't that far off in noise - but again, was in the rain so maybe not accurate assessment. On the inside, again had reminders of the GX. The LX Overtrail I guess is really a base model, because rear seat folding, tight legroom for the second row, tight squeeze exiting cargo area with seats folded, etc, seemed about the same to me.

Hopefully people chime in with more useful details than mine. I couldn't get there earlier in the day so ended up being more rushed than I wish, and had my own list of concerns I needed to check. And after seeing and measuring the compromised rear space with the third row I already was leaning towards waiting it out for the two row version instead of driving it home.

I mean, let's be honest. You only bother with a third row in an LX if you will use this as a soccer-mom mobile to put kids there in the back. If you are buying this to actually overland or off-road you do NOT want a third row (at least not the one in the LX). That is why most here yanked those jump seats out of 200s and why the 200 HE 2 row makes soooo much more sense to me.

Yup, yanked mine out of the 200 prior to delivery and on the LX, they haven’t, nor will they, see the sun light.

And no easy way of seeing how much battery would be left underneath.

I thought I remembered a quick shot in some video showing the rear with two rows, but I really hope there's some more details at some point. Dealer said he checked and there are only two LX700hs in the country with two rows now, so definitely not a lot of production allocated to them.

It's about six bolts to remove the seat assembly, probably less than an hour to pull it completely out from my research in the repair manual. The biggest hurtle right now will be waiting for the parts diagrams to be posted in order to get the 2-row parts.

It looks to me that if you get a 3 row you can potentially get a flat folding set up. Which will help if you want to sleep back there.

Alternatively we can pack a 100 or 200 almost to the roof with 10 days worth of supplies and guns and haul 3 people. Haven’t tried this in the 600 yet or 700 ot 3 rowI have coming in the next month.

As far as the LX Mark Levinson, absolutely no complaints. Compared to the Burmester in my Sclass AMG coupe (almost double the price) its not lagging much at all, somewhat better bass and they both really leave nothing lagging unless you are into competition Bass or some specialty stuff. The LX will leave you deaf, luckily the lawyers didn’t dictate on this item.

I’m confused by that too. All LXs are now 60/40; (with exception of the ultralux)

That said my 100 is 60/40, so it’s not the end of the world.
