I am looking on the used market and the LX appears to be the better value. You get all the 2013 LC interior upgrades starting in 2008 with the LX. Please post up experiences with the '08 and '09 LX's, and pictures with off road mods and off road tires. How is the AHC holding up as well?

We have a '10. Was from Ohio. Replaced the shocks at about 80k miles, which is probably a little earlier than some. Was about a $2,000 job. AHC is awesome, I get just much lift as my buddy with a '16 4Runner that has 3" OME. And easier to drive home after the trails.

Thank you for the picture thread.

Can the LX run 35s with the AHC set to high?

No chance, plus the truck won't always run at high setting, meaning at a certain speed if in high the truck will lower. If you like to drive at speed this could be an issue for you (don't quote me but I think it lowers at speeds over 29mph or something odd like that). Your tires would need to fit in low/middle/high settings. And I hear the truck can be fairly rough riding in high, though maybe not as rough as the 100 series. I assume you don't plan to mod the suspension but then again you're talking 35s which comes w/ a few more complications than just a lift. I do not own an LX, this is just what I hear and from talking to a buddy of mine.

Thank you.

I wonder if Slee is building an override switch similar to the LX470 override switch where the truck always rides in high mode.

Message @TeCKis300 he is an AHC guru and seems to know his stuff (and is a big fan to say the least :P). And def talk to Slee, he runs 35s and loves his beast, though also talks about how annoying the 35s are because of how much they rub.

Thanks Mogwai.

Thank you for the picture thread.

Short answer is sorta. But not because of AHC.

- As the LX (including the LC) are IFS in the front, lift has nothing to do with running bigger tires. The suspension will run through the same stroke under compression, lift or not. So a 35 has to fit at all points of the suspension stroke (i.e. AHC L or N), including full compression. Lift only sets the neutral point at which the suspension sits at rest.
- Mods to support 35s will be just like the LC. Common interference points are forward of the tire (trim the plastic liner). Rear of the tire (remove mud flap, trim liner, and possibly side step). Depending on how aggressive of a 35 and offset of tires, the rear body mount may be an issue and may need upper arms to help clearance. At least we don't have KDSS to worry about.

It's super easy to lift AHC 1.75" at the AHC sensors, and 35's will sit about right visually with that lift. Remember, AHC doesn't sag in lift with added accessories and load like the LC guys. They may lift say 2", but after putting a bunch of accessories, are likely barely over a 1" lift.

If I were to recommend something, a 34" tire is much much easier to fit with less rubbing overall.

I run a 33" tire (33.2"), with only subtle tweaks necessary. Didn't bother lifting as I don't want to compromise on-road handling.

Go for the 34" if you want aggressive. Making that work won't be an issue. 35's involve a bit more cutting everywhere, but surely can be done.

I run 34's on my lx and after minor trimming, I have zero rub issues. 35's are not unattainable if you so have the desire.

275/80r18 calling my name. 275/70r18 the safe choice. 33 vs 35. I have no mods on the lx to help. have tundra +60 18 rims and 25 mm spacers available. Willing to remove mud flaps and fender liners. Don’t really want UCas.

The $64k question, how much trimming, really? @DeckerT4R has sold his rig, so no templates available . . .

Had the same q on my build thread, putting here for posterity.

The specific tire is kenda klever kr28 275/80r18 at.

If I go 33 Looking at 275/70r18 milestar Patagonia mt

I have only had my 08 LX570 for about a year now, it's seen a lot of wheeling but this past weekend in Telluride was the first time I have really given in a proper flogging. Running 34" x 11" R 20 Falken AT3W at 18PSI, we had side by sides and dirt bikes pulling over to let us pass. Really hitting the same pace I'd run in my old FJ with King's all around. Surprisingly it took it all and didn't bottom out once despite getting airborn several times and hitting some water bars and whoops at a speed I initially expected to produce some rather violent results. Other than tires my LX is stock though so if the AHC would hold up as you start piling on weight I can't say.

How were the brakes on Black Bear?

I really enjoyed taking Matt's LX over Ophir but the brakes in 4Lo were my biggest complaint (if you can call it that). It wanted to push through them while his 16 LC has no issues in 4Lo even with its steeper 1st gear. I'm assuming it's really just a pedal feel thing and once confident that the stopping power is always there, it's a non-issue.

Overall I was super impressed. Since I was always playing catch up to the vehicles in front, I ran the LX pretty fast and it was always super composed. And now I'm looking at LXs as a new daily and handing the SRT off to my wife!

I think that I already know the answer to this, but would 33/12.5/r20 rub? I have the ability to get a good deal on Toyo Open Country MT this size and was wondering if they are just too wide? TIA

Brakes were fine, I will say they were not very confidence inspiring prior to switching over to TRD Pads though.

Thanks grinchy. Yes, that's basically the tire I'm running. 305/55/20. It's stamped also with 33x12.5 on the sidewall. Effective size is 33.2"x12.3".

They can rub a bit, but it can be easily mitigated. Otherwise, it really only just rubs on plastic and not a big deal. Tricks are to use a 3/4" or 1" spacer on stock wheels for an effective offset of 35-40mm. You'll need to pull the forward part of the liner forward. And rear or the front tire, remove or re-shape the mudflap. Also, a little tweak to the bracket that holds the side-step. Works super well.
