LX570 - Fluid Change Maintenance Schedule?

I've looked thru the entire maintenance schedule and did not see anything about changing transmission, differential or power steering fluid. Does Lexus recommend this at some point? I have only seen engine coolant, AHC and brake fluid on the maintenance schedule.

I purchased a 2013 lx with 86,000 miles last year. it was dealer maintained. no record of differentials, transfer case, tranny fluid being changed.

1. First thing, I spoke to a few lexus dealerships in my area. Not a single one would do a transmission fluid exchange and/or drain/fill. the usual song and dance it was sealed. I did speak with a service advisor at a lexus dealership and he stated on his personal lx he exchanged it at 100,000 miles. I went to an independent mechanic and he did a fluid exchanged. He stated he used toyota ws. Once it was completed and I received the receipt and it stated generic synthetic fluid. I paid ($200) him but not happy. I went to a toyota dealership (about $200) a month later and had fluid exchanged again with world standard. I have put a link below on why you want to use ws according to professer kelly.



2. I found a mechanic off this board. I purchased the toyota transfer case fluid. I purchased differential fluids (mobil one) and crush washers. I was charged $59 for labor. I had front, rear differentials changed. He stated it look very clean. No lights have ever come on.

The diffs and transfer case interval is "severe use, 60,000miles" per the owners manual. The transmission is "lifetime" (bull****) I had the dealer exchange (not pressure flushed) with my 120,000mile service. They had a machine for it and made no fuss when I asked. They knew to, and did use the WS fluid (world standard) from Toyota. I have not seen an interval for the power steering. Are we certain that the power steering is hydraulic in the LC200/LX570? If is is an electric assist rack it would never need to be done (my Lexus ISF has this).

In the Gulf, user manuals state an auto trans fluid inspection requirement every 40k km / 25k miles and change requirement every 80k km / 50k miles for all LC 200s

That dealership is a scam. Never had good luck with them. I hear one in Alexandria is better, but never been there.

If you get a fluid transfer pump from Pela or Mityvac it is very easy to just remove the PS fluid from the reservoir and refill every oil change. Small volume, won’t cost much, and basically ensures the majority of your PS system has fresh fluid at all times.

Not sure who posted this idea on the board but I adopted it and it has been very easy.

@turbo8 answered about their 09 but so far all 200-series have full hydraulic power steering.

I can say for absolute certain that the recommended schedule for the LX is exactly as UCrazyKid describes. Front and rear diffs and transfer case at 60k if needed and 120k under normal driving. Transmission does not have a schedule, but my dealer recommended a fluid change at 120k to go along with the diffs and transfer case. I know this because I just dropped my truck off this morning and it was all clearly there in the Lexus service system. Oddly, these things were not in the "standard" list of services, but were in the "optional but recommended" list.

I actually had them do the transmission at 110k because it had never been done. Apparently they also did the front and rear diff and transfer case at the same time. I guess they recommend doing all at one time, but the service guy at my 110k visit never mentioned it and didn't include those on my invoice for some reason, but the guy today confirmed that they had actually been done and provided me with updated paperwork. Woohoo!

Even so, I don't know the exact price, but the transmission fluid change was about $250. I would definitely avoid any dealership that couldn't change your transmission fluid.

If anyone thinks that 120k is a good plan for their AB60F or that it's a 'lifetime fluid' ...

I'd recommend to start changing it at 60k. This truck was out of Walnut Creek, CA and had 104k on the clock after 5 years in service. So it was primarily highway miles. Reportedly, the PO had a place in Tahoe so it did see mountain pass use, but lots of highway at 21k/year. The receiver had no indications of any towing prior to me. So I wouldn't call it 'severe use' in the first 104k. In my 20k prior to the fluid change there was quite a bit of trail use and some towing.

Also, if I remember correctly the schedule and even fluid specs can change with different model years. One example is some LX570 manuals specifying 75w90 in the transfer case, and others specifying the super expensive straight 75w LF (could be wrong on the letters)

Basically, in general do what your manual says. But if it says never change, do some more research and come up with something that works for you. No automotive fluid is “lifetime”, especially in the context of these trucks we want to get so many trouble-free miles from.

On my new to my 13’ with almost 140k miles I’m thinking of changing the tranny fluid, front/rear diff, and transfer case oil all at the same time. Essentially, the 120k mike service listed in the LC200 service manual. Is this a good plan?

I believe it's smart to change all the fluids around 100k miles on any vehicle especially the cooling system. Which is usually the weakest link.
