I am looking to upgrade my 99 LC rear view mirror to an auto dim + compass mirror from a LX470. The mirror has an orange plug with 4 wires. I have spent several hours with my 99 and 04 LC EWD's and have determined I do not have the proper wiring diagram at my disposal. In the LC diagram with an auto dim only mirror, the mirror plug is connector I22 and only has 2 wires.

If anybody has a Lexus EWD and can share the diagram for the "Inner Mirror" I would be eternally grateful. I do not want to apply power to the wrong spot and burn the mirror up. These mirrors are hard to find. Thanks!

Both mirrors are made by Gentex and wire plugs should fit if it has only a row of pins. I installed a mirror from a gm truck with auto dimming, compass and temperature display.

@nissanh - I was not aware the Cruiser rear view mirrors were made my Gentex, I assumed they were made in Japan. I need to add power wiring for the mirror as my old LC has a manual flip mirror with no extra plugs in the overhead console.

The 100 mirror uses a unique mounting "button " on the glass, different than most modern Gentex mirrors that use a wedge-shaped button. You'd need to adhere a new Gentex wedge button above or below the OEM button to use a modern Gentex mirror. And no, retrofit Gentex mirror doesn't need to be Toyota, other OEMs use similar inner mirrors.

I used the arm in the oem morror and attached it to a gentex mirror. Pulled a wire through the A pillar, and headline, all good.

That is good information for anybody looking to swap a generic Gentex into their rigs!

I have still come up empty handed searching for a wiring diagram for the genuine LX auto dim + compass mirror I have obtained. It is looking like I need to sit down with a multi-meter and power source to see what does what on the mirror.

‘98 LX. I only have the auto-dim, no compass but there are 4 wires to the mirror. Did you check under there to see if there is an empty plug?

Two wires are power (ign+, ground) and the other two are for the EC (dimming). Just probe until you get 12V switched. Gextex mirrors can be powered by a single 12V switched circuit, most have separate power wires for EC/compass & Homelink functions... they can be combined and powered by single vehicle circuit. I’ve done this Gentex mod to many of my vehicles, really pretty easy to figure out wiring regardless which mirror you use. If you find a Toyota mirror I can help with pin outs, I’m an engineer in Toyota R&D.

Does transmission in reverse disable the dim mode?

I don’t know about the reverse disable. I know that the EC wires (2 & 3) are output signal to activate the EC dimming of the side outer mirrors.

This is the Lexus mirror I am trying to figure out. It is not a Gentex.

Same wiring pinouts as I mentioned above. This compass mirror appears to be P/N 87810-60170. Part drawing shows the following terminal codes according to numbers molded into plug:
1 = IG (red) -> switched power +
2 = EC+ -> dimmer signal out to outer mirrors
3 = EC- -> dimmer signal out to outer mirrors
4 = Ground

All this discussion piqued my curiosity of installing a Gentex mirror onto an existing 100-series "camlock" mount. I was going to try to design an adapter, but a quick Google search found this:
CAMLOCK-Windshield-Adapter-Bracket
Maybe this is old news to some of this forum, but this is pretty cool. I ordered one (look for Subaru adapters on eBay, around $12) and will report back once I get a Gentex mirror installed.

If you are installing Gentex, make sure to mount the circuit box that manages the compass correctly. I had to flip the circuit to get proper north and south displaued on the mirror. I also removed the back of the mirror cover and mountes to the toyota factory arm.

I got the LX mirror installed and working, by using an ignition source to Pin 1 and ground at Pin 4. Pins 2 and 3 were individually terminated in heat shrink and taped up.

This morning the compass display reads - - and the auto dim function doesn't work. The green indicator light next to the AUTO button at the bottom of the mirror is illuminated. Did the mirror just brick itself?

Update: This idea didn't work. The 100-series Tokai Rika mirror is not a Honda/Subaru "cam lock" style mount, it uses a unique mounting method with no known adapters available in the market. I am considering fabricating a custom adapter, but for now the OEM mirror will remain.

My wife will think I've gone crazy driving circles in the front yard...

Thanks for the info. Calibration didn't cross my mind since it worked find the day before. Any idea why the compass would need a fresh calibration when nothing changed?
