So if a car comes up behind me with its brights on it doesn't dim it is supposed to get brighter? Why have it then?
the rear view mirror has a sensor at the back (towards to the windshield) to sense the ambience light level. When getting dark it will dim the mirror to reduce the light from the other car's beam.

when testing, use your flash light on that sensor, not mirror surface.

I know how it works and when a car with its brights on is behind me it doesn't dim it does the opposite and I have to turn it down so I'm not blinded.

If there is too much light reflected to the sensor it is possible. Do you have anything stick to the windshield like special flim or ez-tag at the sensor location?

Again the mirror surface wont sense light, the mirror wont dim at the time you have beam on it. it should be dimmed all the time during night. if it is dimmed during night time and return normal in day light, it is functional. You need to check why the sensor is so sensitive to the beam light.

Reviving an old thread…. My new to me ‘01 isn’t indicating any power. I bought a set of manuals and haven’t found in the schematics where what fuse feeds it or that it exists.

I was wondering if the compass is the same issue as my 06 Tacoma where you have to fix a cold solder for 2 resistors.

Has anyone open the mirror up yet?

I have power at the connector. But the green led never lites. I’m surprised no one has reverse engineered this to find the high fail ckt…

Has anyone tapped the 12v on the orange connector to wire up a USB port for a dash cam? I'd love to find a connector taht would fit so I don't have to splice any factory wires.
