LX470 Rear View Mirror (auto dim + compass) upgrade - wiring diagram needed

The gentext I installed did its own calibration in 2 to 3 days of driving

I have the stock mirror 06 LX and it should have the compass display based on my research. Here is a pic of the mirror model.

The compass display is not working at all it is not displaying any values. I tried multiple iterations of holding the auto button for 3 or 9 seconds per the fsm posted above but nothing happens.

Any ideas to "activate" the compass? Is it likely a wiring issue at this point?

Update: This idea didn't work. The 100-series Tokai Rika mirror is not a Honda/Subaru "cam lock" style mount, it uses a unique mounting method with no known adapters available in the market. I am considering fabricating a custom adapter, but for now the OEM mirror will remain.

Hi! Did you figure out if the LX470 / 100 series mount is similar as to most common Toyota / Lexus vehicles?

I am considering adding a rear view mirror screen to get a rear view camera installed, but keep it looking somewhat OEM. Some ideas:

Unfortunately those aftermarket options aren't going to mount onto an OEM 100 mirror button. Nearly all late model Toyota/Lexus vehicles primarily use a tombstone-shaped button known as a "Gentex style", as do many other OEMs. For the newer digital display mirrors, a larger button is used for more footprint on glass. 100 series is an odd duck.

I have an 03 LX. I feel like it should have a compass in the rearview mirror, but I see no evidence of a display for that. What year did the compasses start?

I believe the compass in mirror were for non Navigation models.

I got the LX mirror installed and working, by using an ignition source to Pin 1 and ground at Pin 4. Pins 2 and 3 were individually terminated in heat shrink and taped up.

This morning the compass display reads - - and the auto dim function doesn't work. The green indicator light next to the AUTO button at the bottom of the mirror is illuminated. Did the mirror just brick itself?

Has this been working after calibration?
Curious if you needed to remove pins 2 and 3 or could they have been left installed.

Just cap the wires at pin 2 and 3 to cover any exposed wires.

I think I was sold a bad mirror. It works, some of the time. If the ambient air temperature is below 50 degrees the mirror usually displays " - - " until the cabin air temperature come up for awhile. In the summer, every couple of months the mirror will display " C " for about a week then correct itself.

Truly, this mirror has been a big disappointment. I wish somebody would build an adapter for the 100 series mirror mount that would allow us to install any of the "tombstone/gentex" style mount mirrors.

I used the arm in the oem morror and attached it to a gentex mirror. Pulled a wire through the A pillar, and headline, all good.
I just received the Gentex mirror as I did not research this topic enough before purchase and now I'm curious as to how you separated the front/back of the Gentex mirror? It does not seem to clip in place and I don't want to ruin a brand new mirror.

Would suck to not being able to use the mirror, but I guess that's what happens when you jump the gun....

You will definitely be able to use the mirror. It’s just a matter which method of install.

-direct fit
-swap arm
-mount adapter

Worst case, attach new mount to windshield.

A quick update:

The stock LC105 mirror cannot be opened to remove the oem arm.
This was my first option since it would have been a quick swap as @hoser suggested.
I will not use this option unless I find a second hand mirror to dissect as it's too much money to waste if
the transplant is not 100%

I went to the local garage and asked if they had any Gentex style mounts but they did not, and they said there
is a risk of cracking the windshield when attempting to remove (and the windshield is very new)

At this point I am going to talk to a friend with scanner/3d printer and see if we can fabricate a mount.
Hoefully this will be doable and not too bulky. If possible I'll see if I can post the 3d file here if anyone else wants
to try the swap.

I'll keep you updated.

So the "--" was present until cabin temp came up to 50, but otherwise it reads an azimuthal direction?
I see you have a '99 and wonder if the mirror will work in a '06 with factory nav. Is the mirror a standalone unit or does it use some other hardware in the vehicle to function besides power.

I am still running this crappy mirror and it still displays "--" anytime it's cool. After some time it will display a cardinal direction.

In my '99 I had to supply my own power to the mirror.

Have you tried any of the below steps. Do you get a response from the mirror to set a zone (1-15) or a "C" for calibration? If not, maybe the mirror is faulty like you initially said.

OP, were you able to make the auto-dimming function work? is it related to the dimming feature of the outer mirrors?
Thanks.

The auto-dimming function is not related to the outer mirrors and will work with power only applied to the LX mirror.

Sorry for bringing this back to life. I have three different mirrors and everyone works for about a week then the compass goes crazy stuck on C or all the leds light. Auto dimming doesn't work it actually does the opposite gets dim in darkness and brightens with light. Homelink works though. Has anyone experienced this?

that is exactly how auto dimming working?
So if a car comes up behind me with its brights on it doesn't dim it is supposed to get brighter? Why have it then?
