I've settled on M1 5w-30 EP, the peace of mind is worth it for the extra $30 over regular M1 5w-30.

Also, I bought a K&N HP-1002 oil filter for $10 on Amazon. I'd read that they are basically the same filter as the M1 EP oil filter and I'm partial to K&N anyway.

I don't like their air filters, but K&N oil filters are good. FYI, Autozone is having a sale right now: 5.xx qt jug of Valvoline Synthetic with K&N oil filter for $29.

But I usually use Napa Gold filters (WIX) and whatever 5w-30 synthetic oil is on sale.

Used Mobil 1 for years and still like it but for 12 years been using AMSOIL in trucks, cars and motorcycles...

Is it even necessary to jack a 100 series Cruiser up to do the oil change or is there enough room to do it without using stands?

BTW, I know this thread is fairly old but it's a fairly good, comprehensive thread about 100 series oil changes.

Depends on the size of the owner... :)

I usually throw it up on ramps just to angle the oil pan to the rear and get as much of the old oil out as I can. Just a personal habit, probably doesn't make an ounce of difference...and I could probably fit underneath just fine without them.

One thing I will say though - keep your catch pan back a good ways from the drain plug. Those 7 quarts come out PDQ, especially while the truck is up on ramps. Ask me how I know.

*gets the kitty litter*

yeah mine used to before I put the same lever operated drain plug I had on my FJC and FJ60.....it directs it down into pan great and is not the huge pouring waterfall as before. Usually tilt my vehicle forward toward front...might have to look again at location of lowest part to see....hahahaha

If you get it with nipple as shown allows you to hook up hose if desired but also direct oil straight down better. They say you can put a hose clip on it for extreme operating conditions as a safety lock....described here. http://www.quickoildrainvalve.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=305 Never had one opened by accident in many years.....it would have to be perfect storm of depressing in correct direction and then rotating lever in correct direction before it would happen. Prefer that to worrying about stripping drain plug as before. I use a clip though....to be absolutely sure.

That tears it - I'm ordering one today. That has always been one of those "COOL, gonna pick one up before the next oil change" items...then its forgotten about since I only change the oil once a year lol. Thanks for bringing it back up in my memory-challenged brain.

ETA: That thing must make getting samples for Blackstone a snap...

Had the fumoto valve on mine for less than a week - loved the idea, but couldn't get it to stop seeping and decided it wasn't worth the risk.
still got it - if anyone wants it for cheap pm me.

Does anyone know of a valve like this but with on inputs and two outputs that could be as an inline drain for ATF or PS fluid?

With 275/70-18 BFG ATs and a level stance, I just roll right under with a creeper.

What's the stock drain plug like? Do you just remove it with a socket wrench?

If you don't know what an oil plug looks like, you should watch a qualified person first. Then you will know what's going on when under there. Not trying to be cynical, but there are basics and this is on the lower end of basic.

I would hate for you to be under there just turning bolts...

Plus, you are an Aggie and that just reaps light bulb jokes:hillbilly:

HAHA...fair enough. I used to change the oil on my diesel all the time but haven't done it on the LX yet. Can't be that hard though. Would be nice if there was a tech article on here somewhere detailing the steps and tools needed but I'm not as dense as I probably come across. ;)

If you look under the front skid, the plug should be obvious.
