Going to change my oil.

Southern California - DD with almost too little offroading to mention.

Leaning toward 5w30 M1 Extended Performance with the M1-102 filter.

I feel dumb asking, but I searched and couldn't find the answer - what's the total quantity of oil for the 2UZ-FE?

i usually put 7 quarts in and it reads properly full on the dipstick. I throw in 6Qs and then start it, check it and add the last Q.

M1-102 filter, thats a direct replacement for the OEM? I gota stop buying my K&N Oil filters, i almost went with the Mobil filter last time but couldnt find the correct P/N. Ive put about a thousand miles on in the last 2 weeks or so, and im over 4k now. Gota get ready to change it!

I stopped in a pep boys on my way from school - there was a Mobil 1 vehicle matching catalogue - it showed ALL Lexus automobiles taking the M1-102 filter, at least up to 2003.

thnx for the quantity verification!

The Mobil M1-102 is the OEM oil filter replacement. The Mobil M1-209 fits and increases the filter area by roughly 50%. Other than the size, the filters are identical. Price is the same for either.

well, just figured I shoul use M1 filter with M1 oil. been usin the K&N performance gold oil filters for over three years now.

What is your OCI (oil change interval) going to be? The M1 EP in 5w-30 is a solid choice but if buying the M1 filter go with the M-209. All the same specs but in a larger can with more filter media.

I like the idea of a larger element, but what does the increased size do to overall pressure?

The larger size is not a problem - the TRD oil filter for the 100 uses a large size. More filter media, more capacity. Works great.

Technically, the 100 is supposed to take 7.2 qt with an oil & filter change. My dip stick is full with 7 qt, so I don't bother with the extra 0.2 qt. If you want to add it with the bigger filter, you may feel a little more at peace about doing so.

Go by the dipstick and not the book quantities when putting in fluids. If the filter is larger it stands to reason that you will require .1-.3 Quarts more oil to bring it to "Full". The larger amount of filter media will ideally allow it to filter effectively before it has loaded to capacity with contaminates and activated the bypass. I doubt that anyone is reaching the filter load capacity of the small filters, but for the same price more is better.

The OEM denso is bigger (longer) than most of the aftermarkets and no complaints there.

I ran the TRD filter a couple times when I had the LC, using OEM currently in the LX. The TRD filter became unreasonably expensive a couple years ago. I still added 7 quarts with the the oil change and the dip stick measured full, so I did not add more.

Don't knowow the 50 M1 extended performance works. Personally, I'd go w/ M1 0w40 or a 5w40. I've only used the M1 0w40, M1 delvac 5w40, M1 10w30, and shell rotella T syn 5w40. Thumbs up to all except the M1 10w30 consistently 5-10% worse fuel economy). I use the OEM -20004 filter. 8 qts will put the oil at exactly the top of the dipstick with a filter change, so I'd say go w/ 7 qts, then run the engine so the filter can suck up some of the oil, then add more if needed.

Jim - Don't you pre-fill the oil filter before installation. I thought you were a lube-nut like the rest of us. ;)

Nah, too messy. :-) I guess it's habit since the filter on my 4runner is on the side of the block (no way to prefill) and the one on my honda faces down. Besides, the -20004 has a bypass filter for startup so the engine doesn't get starved of oil for a split second.

supid newbie question, just went to change oil in my 03 lc and i cant find the oil filter (i too bought the mobil 1 filter)...although, i did not remove bottow skid plate, and i assume that is what i have to do? Thanks in advance for any help!

There are two panels to remove from the skidplate. One is towards the back middle of the skidplate, that is held on by two screws. That is the access panel to the drain plug. The oil filter access panel is up more towards the front drivers side of the skidplate. Pretty easy to find if you look for them.
