Help Please!

Please can someone explain how I can hookup an LED light-bar to operate when my highbeams are activated. Problem I'm predicting is when the high-beams come on during the day as a half power DRL. I obviously don't want the LED to come on in the DRL mode only at night when the high-beams are on. Thanks very much for any help!!! 2006 LX470

Well in a perfect world I would like to keep the DRL incase the cops ever send me for an inspection. I would love to know what I could tap into only when the Highbeam light is showing on the dash. Instant on/off with full highbeams on.

Wire the light bar to a relay under the hood somewhere with hot going to the battery via a fuse. Then take the relay actuation line and run a piece of wire to the back of the one headlight where a plug plugs into the back of the bulb. Figure out which terminal is the high beam. Strip about 1/2" of the wire. It doesn't have to be a big thick wire to actuate the relay. Thread the stripped wire through the hole in the bulb terminal. Not sure if they all have a hole, but all mine do. Then plug the plug back, over the stripped wire.

I like this solution because it can be removed with no trace in the future. The driving lights on both my rigs are wired this way. One has been like this for 6 or 7 years without fail.

Keep in mind that your light bar is not DOT-approved, so this is technically not legal. Both sets of my driving lights are legal with stock 55w bulbs. Also, technically, the light bar would have to be covered when not in use, in CA anyway. If a cop wanted to be a dick about it you might have to deal with some BS.

Thanks for your reply, are these instructions for LX470 specific? As the DRL uses the Highbeam during the day at a lower voltage and I don't want this to trigger the led lightbars during the day? Cheers!!

I've wired a few different vehicles like this. Wire your relay so that your high beam actuates the relay just like Fast Eddy said, but put an in-cab switch in line between your headlight and your relay. That way you can still control the bar i.e. have it turned off during the day, and then flip the switch at night and the bar will turn on and off with your high beam.
