LX470 Fog Lights (1 Viewer)

Ok, so I picked up this '00 LX470 a few days ago. Great car, but, when I purchased it the fog lights didn't work. I originally thought the problem was related to a bad fuse or bulbs.

I found some other threads related to this subject and there were a few people who noticed missing relays.

Anyway, tonight I pulled out the distribution box next to the drivers kick panel (to the left). Albeit a difficult task, I was able to get the whole thing removed without damaging anything.

I flipped it over and looked at the relays. I have no idea why Toyota would put these relays in such a difficult place!! Anyway, the relay marked "FR FOG" was missing !!!!

Ok, so I figured it just fell out? Nope, nothing sitting on the floor behind the box. It was just missing. Strange thing is, did the previous owner drive around since '00 without fog lights? Did they think this was normal? :whoops:

Anyway, pics coming after I get back from the auto parts store. Need to find the relay and install it.

My local Toyota dealer had to order the relay took a few days.

Ok, so I promised to come back during my fix. Here's what I've got so far.

The part number for the relay I found on this site is 90080-87010. However, after doing some research, I found the relay is AKA 90987-02012, 90080-87026, or the one I found here 90080-87010. The other numbers are older part numbers, but, the relays are the same.

When I called around town, nobody could find the part. Finally I called ORiley AP back and asked if they had an equivalent. And, that's when they showed me a part from Import Direct #25-0137.

I've attached a photo of my control panel showing the missing relay. In fact, it looks like the relay right next to it, labeled RR Heater, is also missing.

Update on this, I went to the dealer to find relays. His pricing was all over the board! For instance, one relay was $85, another was $49, and the last was $30.50. Considering all of these parts are the same item, I decided to hold off.

I then went down to a local NW vendor called Knecht's Auto Parts. I gave them all three numbers and they said all three were covered by one of their aftermarket (waterproof) relays. Here's the relay part they sold me, that I highly recommend.

In my attachment, you can see all three relays. The OEM Toyota relay, Intermotor relay, and the last Import Direct relay. I decided against using the Import Direct relay because it was not waterproof and seemed very flimsy.

I'm happy to report that both relays were installed and I now have working fog lights!! BTW: the other relay I replaced was marked as RR Heat and, after doing some reading on the forum, fixed my rear heater. It now blows very warm!!

Did you use the same relay for the Rear Heater Relay as you did for the Fog lights? What part number did you use for the Rear Heat Relay?

Hi Dan, yes I used the same relay for both. I used the Intermotor relays.

I’m going to bump this old thread because mine is different. The fog light mod is a simple concept, I’m not worried about doing that part. In fact I’ve done it on my 4th gen 4runner.
I cannot, for the life of me, find this damned fog light relay. The lights work just fine. The relay is not on the kick panel junction box, and it’s not in the engine bay fuse box. Any other suggestions as to where it might be?

Ok, I decided to apply a little common sense troubleshooting to this, I turned the fog lights off and on and listened for The relay. It is definitely in the engine bay fuse box. But after some careful digging and research, I found a post here on mud from a guy replacing his entire box. He confirmed there were more relays under everything that you don’t have access to.

The very last picture has the relay we are looking for, FR FOG. It’s soldered in.

In order to do this mod on our late model rigs requires a ton of work. At this point I don’t think it’s worth it.
Hope this helps anyone else looking to do this and getting lost like I did.

Curious as to what fog light Mod you're talking about? The OP fog lights didn't work so he replaced the missing relay. I understand in the later years some relays are soldered in.
