Any options for replacing the fogs on the lx470 with cube lights? (1 Viewer)

Has anyone ever seen examples of replacing the fog/indicator lights on the lx470 with a couple pod lights, similar to what’s been done on GX’s? I was thinking about doing a couple pods in the grilles toward the middle, but realized that since the factory fogs are basically useless anyhow, wouldn’t it be better to remove those housings and put pods in that location instead? Has anyone else ever looked into this?

Sorry, how are they useless? Mine emit a solid amount of light at the cutoff they are supposed to have. Going selective yellow (Flosser semi-gold 55w) made it even better.

That retrofit lacks any pic of what output would look like. And likely just annoys other drivers.

But hey, you will fit in more with all the Jeep dudes and their cornucopia of cube lights.

Because it’s my vehicle and I don’t give half a s*** what you think? That could have something to do with it. Mind your own business if you have nothing to contribute.

While living in a large city, I’d agree with your assessment.

After spending some retirement time in the “country”, I’ve become aware of how “bad” the factory low beam headlights, and fog lights really are, on 55+MPH two lane blacktop, with hills, turns, and deer.

Sure, I could just jam some HIDs, or LEDs in the factory low beams, ignore focal length, and “blind the world”, but as a retired engineer, it might be possible to use some aftermarket lights, properly selected and aimed, to improve the lighting, without necessarily blinding oncoming drivers? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Or I could just add an aftermarket LED light bar, run 24/7, like all the other F150/Jeep vehicles in the area?

A good HID projector retrofit for the low beams does wonders - totally transforms driving at night! Nothing else is going to compare.
Lou's (@Luke111) bracket makes it relatively easy to do a Mini H1 or a MicroD2S retrofit, and I promise it's worth the effort. You get an amazing cutoff with an incredible amount of light, all very well controlled.

If you go the MicroD2S route, the ignitors can stick out the back of the housing pretty far - theartisangarage.com sells an engineered tail cap that I made to handle this issue while keeping everything sealed nicely.

Yep, that was one option that I was considering, my current understanding is that Luke no longer offers “built” headlights, since he no longer has a test mule vehicle, so I’ve opted for Kelly Saad’s 7” conversion, combined with some Vision X, or JW Speaker headlights. Maybe less aesthetically pleasing, but should address my immediate complaints.

I really took more issue, with a post above, that seemed to imply that it would be impossible to improve on the factory fog lights, without blinding oncoming drivers, while misusing cheap HID/LED bulbs, in an incandescent projector is A-OK…

Is it possible to misuse cube lights, and be an “a******”? Yes. Is it also possible to use an appropriate cube light, that has an appropriate beam pattern, and still offer some improvement? I also believe the answer is “yes”, but it may not be cheapest cube light offering.

I also may take issue with the rampant misuse of light bars in my area, from Mustangs, to F150s, and Jeeps. Do they really “need them” at high noon, with sunny conditions? Somewhat agreeing with the above post about Jeep assholes, with excessive cube lights…
