In the process of installing HID's in my LX and I'm looking at whitening up the burnt orange glow of the DRL's.

Have any other LX owners installed some 9005 LED's into their highbeams?

Looking at some Cree LED's but I'm curious how it would work with the lower wattage of the system.

Well, you could pull the extra resistor that got put in during a recall saying they were too bright. That would brighten them up. Put HIRs in and they'll be even brighter. Then you'll have real high beams when it gets dark.

My high beams are plenty bright. I'm speaking toward the DRL function only. I never use my high beams, and would only need them functioning once a year for inspection time. That's why I'm looking to swap them out.

I currently have my DRL's on a switch, and like using them while taking road trips. But, when I use them, I just want something with a crisp white light, so I was hoping LED's would be the way to go.

When the drl's are on, they're running in series, so each bulb gets half the normal voltage. Whether that works with led's is the question.

there was a harness installed, plugged into, your DRL relay mounted next to the airbox that leads to the resistor that was installed for the recall. You can just pull the harness out and reconnect the vehicle side back into the DRL relay.

The resistor is in a perforated metal box aft of the airbox.

You can also simply leave the low beams on when you drive.

I have been leaving the lows on, only problem is I sit in the vehicle for a while when stopped and the lights won't shut off unless I remove the key open and close the driver door, then lock and unlock the vehicle or manually turn the lights off or to DRL mode then I forget to switch them back on. I just can't stand the yellow color of the DRL with the resistor in place.
What does it mean, remove resistor then plug it back into relay? I see the plug attached to the relay but then what??

I believe I saw an option using Techstream where you ca turn off the DRL's - not sure if you'd like to do that completely. I should try it and see if it works.

For MY 03-05 there were some modifications done in the main junction box too for this special service campaign so it may not be as straight forward as disconnecting the resistor bock. If you go to safecar.gov you can pull up recall and service bulletin info for your vehicle. For instance the technical instructions for the installation of this DRL service campaign are contained in a 23 page .pdf, worth checking out if you want to fully and correctly reverse this modification. It also has pics of where the resistor, relay block and J/B are

Most likely going to put in LEDs for the low beams and go with HIRs for the highs. I haven't seen LEDs that handle the dual high beam/DRL function, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there.

I haven't seen LED's that can give you light throw even close to HID'S. My HID's are still going strong after about 4 years. HIR's for the high's are fantastic...only thing better would be HID's, but that would require installing a projector or buying a non-oem headlights...mixed results here with using non-oem housings.

For those of you thinking you'd like to remove the resistor on an '03 to '05, removing the resistor is just scratching the surface...a lot more needs to be done and it looks like you should be very comfortable with wiring modifications before you try it.

9.5 year revival here but.......In an attempt to disconnect the DRL dimming resistor on my '01 and '04 Lexii, I unplugged the resistor harness from resistor and relay. This harness was added due to recall. I then plugged the old connector back into the relay. DRLs came back on just fine but not positive they are brighter like before the dimming resistor. I elected to never get the dimming resistor on my 2000 LX and during the daylight I can't tell any difference in brightness in any of the three Lexii. Waiting for sundown to confirm success or not.

One with DRL dimming resistor and one without.
One is the '06 LX with factory resistor and one I just disconnected resistor to hopefully create the brighter DRLs. Although the picture angle isn't perfect, I believe I can tell that the three Lexii without the resistor has brighter DRLs than the '06 with resistor.

And that was by just removing the TSB recall harness and connecting original wire back to relay. Hopefully nothing in the fusebox will burn up.
