I'm pretty sure my new to me LX sat for a bit before I bought it.
When I press the sunroof retract button I hear a mechanical clunk but nothing moves (in both directions).

My mechanic friend thinks the rubber gaskets may have gotten stuck (mildly bonded) to the surround from sitting to long or having never been used. Does the window go UP and back above the roof line or DOWN and between the roof and headliner? I want to make sure that I'm pushing the right way to help it.

Or is there a known issue of this mechanism failing? If so, how hard is the fix? Is it just a cable that comes loose or something more involved? I'm perfectly happy with it being stuck and sealed if it ends up being an overly expensive component to fix.

Thanks for the help.

when you slide it, it first drop and then slides.

Spray some WD-40 between the rubber gasket and body. Give some time to penetrate. Don't put too much as this will drip into the sunroof shade. If you can sldie open the sun shade (from inside the truck) slide it open and spary in there as well also to the tracks. Give few hours and try.

Since I know the sunroof is a pain to fix if it breaks, I maintain it every 4-5 months. Remove the dust, clean the drain and lube the tracks. The sunroofs in my runner and cruiser operates like brand new.

That probably explains the one i saw for sale down here in Miami where the whole roof was just line-x'd over. Didn't even bother welding in a patch panel for the sunroof, just sprayed bed liner over the whole damn thing! You bet your ass it was sealed up though!

I just got mine working a few weeks ago and it stuck again as I was focused on the cables and did not clean the rubber.
From inside push the sunroof up in each corner. Shake it up and down. Then use the tilt function while giving it a little help.

If you get the seal broken and it goes up but wont slide back, spray some BP blaster in there and let it soak. Better to park on an incline with the front higher that then back so the PB blaster will run down the track.

After soaking use your hand and push the sunroof back while using the switch. If it doesnt work repeat.
I was only able to get it to open an extra 1/4 to 1/2 inch after each soaking.
Then clean as much of the rubber gasket as you can each time.

Dont work it too long at a single time as you may burn out the motor.
Once open apply grease to the tracks.

Disclaimer, While I can now open my sunroof two weeks later my car still liek PB Blaster.

What!? My sunroof actually worked at one time!?
