LX Lower Tailgate Hardware Part #’s (1 Viewer)

Good Morning Hundy Friendos,

The quarantine continues to allow me to nitpick my LX (I like to think of it as a long, slow vehicle restoration).


Anyone know how to come by the part#’s for these tailgate hardware items?
1. Lower Tailgate Screws/Bolts (3)
2. Lower Tailgate Striker/Latch
3. License/Tag Bolts (2)

try partsouq.com these part #s are for an 05 100 series, 6943060030 for the striker, the bolts for it are 9014880040. the handle is 6921260030 and the bolt for it 9014950064.

License plate screws I think are M6x1 size.

Got a new license plate and need to affix it to the tailgate. I looked at Home Depot and local hardware store to find the bolt but it seems like every bolt is a tad too thick or thin. Also, does anyone sell those in plastic. I've had a history of my metal ones rusting on all of my cars. Thanks

No problem @shiretowndown , glad it was helpful. I went with stainless steel bolts. Ace or Tru Value Hardware generally have a great metric SS selection.

Ok I successfully swapped out my lower tailgate hardware, at least the visible parts:

I had used a T40 torx on a ratchet to remove the 2 striker bolts. They are in snug but I just made sure ratchet was at a 90 degree angle to tailgate and gave the handle a pop! and they busted loose. With sets of boots I wasnt sure what they were fastened to (bracket?) inside tailgate so I removed them with tailgate in dropped position thinking gravity might be more kind in this position. I didnt want to open inner tailgate space. Both striker and door handle appear to be mounted to stainless steel brackets, no rust inside holes could be seen.

Corrosion wasn’t bad but it was present. My tailgate looks really nice otherwise. All the hardware on upper tailgate is still nice and glossy black. Saving this hardware.

I went ahead and greased new bolts and the backside of striker...

@2001LC style I wiped off excess lube on striker and just left I light residue on back of striker plate for a layer between body.

Striker Installed

Next I replaced door handle. 3 parts: 1 plastic bushing, 1 small screw and 1 handle. As mentioned above I was concerned that if I removed all 3 of these handle fasteners the handle assembly would fall into the tailgate. I hoped that if I replaced the handle fastener It may hold the setup while I replaced the 2 bolt-n-washer fasteners between striker and handle. Once I gently removed old bushing I put a tad of lube beneath handle spindle.

I then replaced bushing and lined up new handle, notice alignment gap on spindle to match with nub on plastic handle. Gently slid down and lubed small fastener screw before snugging down.

The most corrosion was occurring on the last 2 bolt n washer fasteners. These phillips screws are large and if a large driver isn't used you are likely to roll your corners. My phillips driver was undersized for the job so I used a drill with largest phillips bit and barely squeezed trigger to hold tension and manually rotated drill to get the initial fastener to break it’s grip. I removed less corroded one, lubed new fastener, replaced then moved to the last (heavily corroded) fastener.

The corrosion was mostly on the bolt but I’m not sure whether the gate has begun to corrode or if this is just some “spillover” corrosion on top of my paint from fastener...I’d be interested to know how @2001LC would handle this slight surface issue?

Glad I did this. It’s a small advancement for my rig but I continue to be inspired by this community. I really do appreciate those who willingly help and offer different opinions with the goal of increasing the knowledge base for 100 Series owners.
