Got a new license plate and need to affix it to the tailgate. I looked at Home Depot and local hardware store to find the bolt but it seems like every bolt is a tad too thick or thin.

Also, does anyone sell those in plastic. I've had a history of my metal ones rusting on all of my cars.

Thanks

Metric

Although you likely know...it's fair to say anything like that is in metric. I replaced mine and was sold the wrong sizes after asking at a parts store, initially, and then just "borrowed" (appropriated) some from my dad. Good luck. Metric.

I need them too. For some silly reason, Idaho makes you replace your plates every ?? years now. After 7 years we had to buy new ones... same number... new plate. So, my rear plate is hanging by one plastic "bolt". Need to know the size and thread pitch. SS sounds good to me, or at least something not plastic. Need to drill out and chase the threads too.

just swing by a dealership, they have hundreds if not thousands on hand. Ask a new car prep guy or a salesman who's walking around with a drill/driver to put new plates on some newbs car.

I've had 5 sets of different plates on my (brown/tan/grey/silver)truck, and two sets on my white truck already, and i've actually got a bunch of bolts...went to the dealership and grabbed a handful once. Having three Lexu....Lexi? that share the same license plate bolts is nice.

I may stop by later today to see what they can do for me... Thanks Loud.

You're so right. I just swung by the Lexus dealership that's right by my house and they gave me a few steel ones and plastic ones. I've never seen such a professional, elegant dealership.

Thanks Loud for your recommendation

6mm metric, but I have no idea of thread pitch...it'll be the same as any of the 6mm bolts under the hood (look for bolts that take a 10mm socket or wrench)...like an engine cover bolt.

I'd get stainless. OEM on my LX uses a phillips head on the rear plate; front plate on the plastic bumper is held on by self-tapping ss screws. I found them a Lowe's in Meridian, Q-Nah Lumber has a pretty good selection of metric fasteners, but it may be a drive for you. Any NAPA or even a Japanese motorcycle dealer should have some. Buy the appropriate tap...if you drill to big you're gonna' need a larger bolt.

Happy Christmas

Steve

no problemo!

I'd advise against plastic ones. I had plastic ones for the rear and they can still be a pain to remove over the years, depending if you live where they use salt for ice, resulting in ripping their bolt heads off. The bolt holes themselves may have rust in them. On the other hand, extracting the rest of it isn't too bad.

LOL, Lowe's in Meridian is just down from our house. Great idea, if I don' stop by Peterson's on my way home from work just to see if they can drill out the broken plastic one.

Thanks Steve!

if needed, the carpet can be removed off the inside of the tailgate and you can get at the bolts. Might be able to put a vise grip on the thread and twist them completely thru the tailgate instead of trying to back them out/drill them out.
