So long story short while doing my alternator I replaced sparks; noticed 6/8 coils were cracked badly. (Coils are on their way so I used old ones as a temp) Engine light was on after; like an idiot I decided to drive it today. Truck lost power and shut off while driving, cranks over but no start. Won't be boosted. Would bad coils do this or potentially looking at fuel pump issues. Thanks.

(I don't have a scanner so I can't get codes yet)

Does it try to start, or just crank?

Read the codes, that will probably tell you everything you need to know.

Just cranks over, doesn't try to start. I really need to buy this obd2 scanner....

try a snort of starting fluid and see if it will catch, then you know which way to go.
does it have gas?
can you hear the pump running?

Will try the starting fluid; not sure if the pump is running or not as I don't know what it sounds like.

Could be the fuel pump

That's what I'm thinking; mechanic will check it out tomorrow as I don't have a scanner or the time this week.

welcome to the 100 crank no start club, i really should sell tshirts and stickers. the fsm gives a pretty good walk through on what to check. i would start with efi fuse/relay, fuel pump cutoff switch under dash by right foot, fuel pump, fuel pump ecm, and occassionally the CPS.

Mechanic said it was the EFI fuse blowing due to short circuit. How potentially serious is this issue?

Interesting. Seems this might be the answer; as mechanic said he replaced the fuse and it keeps immediately blowing again. Anyone have luck with the bypass kit? (Not saying I don't trust medtro I just don't know lol)

At this point it seems you'd be hard pressed to find folks on here NOT running his kit. (I may be...I can't recall!) He has over 10k messages FWIW. But he can speak for himself.

To test, you can jumper the F pin to 12v. If all is well, then you've found the problem. See his first post way back when here.

If it cranks when jumpered then you know it's the EFI fuse causing the issue.

Sorry for ignorance. Jumpered means what? Pretty basic when it comes to electrical parts of cars. Thx

Use a piece of insulated wire. Strip both ends. Touch one end to positive side of car battery. Touch other end to the terminal labeled F in the pic from the thread.

Thank you. Sent relevant info to mechanic as truck is still at the shop. He thinks it's the module in the back of the truck but is still troubleshooting.; hopefully this helps point him in right direction!

And now mechanic said he won't hotwire it due to potential fire. Man I'm at my wits end with this truck.

You should be at wits end with the mechanic. Less than 5 minutes to rule out the EFI fuse.

I know, he's usually pretty good; old school guy knows his way around cars not sure why he's getting cold feet.
