Posting for insight as much as for therapeutic purposes. 2002 lx 470 with approx 234k miles.

Taking a week vacay with gf through Virginia wine country. Was driving through Ruckersville Va going ab 45 mph when I felt a shudder and vehicle felt like it was in limp mode. Pulled over immediately and turned off.

check engine light, vsg light, a/t oil light and battery light came on. Engine would not crank after that. Also oil gauge was pegged to bottom

Luckily got a tow to a local mechanic but really trying to narrow down causes prior to the screwing I’m anticipating based on how I was treated upon arrival.
Hopefully they can scan in morning and narrow down, just not trying to pay for a timing belt when it’s in fact a fuel pump.

also if anyone is around this area and knows of a good mechanic I’m all ears

thanks

Ok

Any leaking fluids?

The starter can turn the engine but it doesn't catch and run?

Oil pressure should be bottomed out until engine catches and runs on its own.

As soon as you get codes from the ECU, post them up.

Starter turns engine but doesn’t seem to catch. Didn’t see any fluids when I was parked in hey.
I’ll def post em up as soon as I have them. Really helps to talk this through. Thanks

It is really hard tell what could be going on.
The check engine light scan could reveal the problem.
Did you just fuel up? Maybe water in the gas?

It could be fuel pump

You say there was no oil pressure. I would assume you checked the oil level.

When was the timing belt last changed?

@lowcountrybp just FYI OTRAMM a land cruiser specialist is in Bealeton which is less than a hour from ruckersville. They’re listed as a trusted vendor on here and I’ve heard lots of good things about them.
x2. Take it to OTRAMM

Thanks I will def reach out to them.
The only code showing was P0340 cam position a/wt sensor circuit B1
Sounds like it could be the cam sensor wires. I've seen it a lot.

Tow it to OTRAMM. Maybe a Toyota dealer if there is one nearby. Depends how badly you need to get home. If it was me I would stick around for a few extra days to have it done right. It's a non-interference engine so you should be okay.

If you can find a tow all the way to SC then do that.

When was the belt changed last? Just curious really. Been on this site for years and very rarely do I read about a belt snapping.

If you look at the bright side...at least you guys found the problem immediately and you're not stranded trying to find a phantom/electrical gremlin.

I bough it about a year ago, I haven’t changed belt and not sure when last changed. Really kicking myself because I had the parts at home and was supposed to do it before I left. Talked to Cody at otramm, heck of a guy and think I’ve settled on towing back to charleston, sc and go from there.
Luckily I’ve got a rental and several days of vacay with my beautiful gf so going to get it shipped down, enjoy some good beer and wine and step back from this for a few days.
Thanks for everyone’s input

Belts straight from the factory don't break, only breakage i've seen/heard is from trucks that have theirs replaced at one point. Either hack jobs or crap parts or both. I've opened up plenty of original 4.7 belts at 2-300K miles and they all look like they could go another 2-300K miles.

Good to know, I didn’t in fact see it broken just not on so hopefully this guy missed it

I have a 98 land cruiser coming into my shop soon for TB/WP replacement, original owner with almost 400K miles, he said he never changed it, i'll be taking pics of it for sure and share it. Frame rusted to shietz and all the rubber parts had to be replaced but engine and transmission purrs like new, incredible engineering.

Or if rodents get in an chew on the belts...I think there have been a few posts regarding that in the last 3-6 months...but not common at all.
