As shown in the picture, the threads on the lower front shock mount are stripped away. Contemplating various solutions ranging from welding on a nut to replacing the whole pin. Thoughts? Other options?

Measure what is still there, die on the next size down threads that fit. Get grade 8 or better nuts and use stainless cotter pins. I'd worry about the heat treatment being compromised by welding.

Can you use a thread chaser die to clean them up?
Hard to tell how mangled the threads are from the picture.

Tried that, they are too far gone.

Looking into that plan. Going from 12mm to 10mm it too far I think. I'll look at a non-metric option.

I'm not worried about weld heat as it would only be a small tak to keep the nut from walking off.

I don't think there is a ton of force exerted laterally on the bottom shock mount?

PM me if you want pins - I have some parts I got when I bought out a guys parts in MN I need to get rid of.

I know this isn’t classified the classified section.

30ish years ago I had the threaded portion shear off. I used a gas welder to weld a threaded chunk of rod on. The rod is still on the axle housing I recently swapped out. It never gave me any trouble.

If my threads were stripped, and I didn’t want to go a size smaller, I’d build the area up with weld. Then grind it roundish and rethread. An air file would make it round enough very quickly.

Alternatively, cut the pin off & bolt/weld a new one in.

Well for the short-term fix so I can move the truck around with shocks on it I re-tapped and threaded a fine thread 1/2-in bolt on and tack welded it in place. Kicked the problem down the road, I'll probably regret that later but here we are.
