Lost my primary key and my 4 year old lost my spare. What are my options for getting a new key cut. I'm not locked out. Can Toyota do it off the VIN or do I have to call a locksmith.

You're SOL - now you have to sell me the truck for $500 ...

I kid.

On the PASSENGER side door lock tumbler - there is a code on it for your keys (you're going to have to remove the door panel). Take the code or tumbler to the Toyota dealer (find a parts guy who knows what he's doing or you're gonna hate him and the dealer) and you can get a new key cut for ignition, locks, etc, assuming they're the original ones.

Other option is to replace everything with new ones.

Don't know if a locksmith can cut from VIN or not...

Good luck.

What year? Toyota has a VIN database but anything before 1990 is hit or miss. Worth a try or you can pull the passenger lock cylinder as stated above.

i had the same problem, so i got a couple oem keys from Sam at Lowe Toyota (they're really cool !!!) and took them to a dealer. they couldn't cut them from the VIN cuz it was too old, so i gave them the number stamped onto the ignition in the steering column and they cut if off that. if you want to that, you'll have to dissect and reassemble some of the steering column. it wasn't too bad though.
Or, like brokenparts said, see if someone will lend you a spare from their cruiser until you get a replacement, chances are, it will start right up

Passenger side door lock cylinder would be much easier to get to than the steering column.

I would just find another cruiser key as said. heck, i've even used a house key when all others were missing.:hillbilly:

X2... Try the tumbler code with a dealer first.. Then a locksmith..

When a friend of mine bought a 40 a long time ago, it did not have keys. We took the tumblers from the door to a old-school locksmith and he manually cut the key with a file while having a conversation with us. One of the most amazing things I have ever seen. He did it purely by feel with a file.

This was many years ago - but perhaps there are still some locksmiths around with those skills.

I believe a hammer and a flat head screwdriver pounded into the key lock should free it up. Hard to explain to the cops if you get pulled over....

If its as easy as having a key from another cruiser, I'd go get a spare and mail it to you tmrw! Seriously.
Wow. Glad my cruiser is the only one around for miles....

Pull the pass side cyl and give me the code stamped in it. I can cut you a key and send it. From Fresno it should only take a day. Pm me if you want with your # and I will give you a call and walk you through it.

Finally got the time to take apart the pass side door. There were 3 digits on the arm off the end of the cylinder - is that it? 243

I kinda remember it being on the cylinder itself, on the length of the cylinder, not the circumference, and more digits, but it's been a few years, now. Might have to clean the gunk off it to see the #s

No, I got the cylinder out, there's nothing on the sides. I'll take it down to Toyota on Monday and see what they say.

Was it keyed the same as the ignition? Does it say "TEQ" on it ?

There's nothing that I can see. Yes, the ignition and doors were keyed together.

Looks like something cast into the lowest part of the cylinder visible in your pic.

my key starts and opens 4 other land cruisers that i know of... try another key. easy option till you figure it out.

good luck finding my kill switch though.......

Should be something like K#### stamped into the housing. Take some brake clean and lightly spray the housing and it sometime will pop up. If not take it to a good locksmith and have them dissemble it and read the wafers. You could always send it to me if you want. I am in fresno so it should be a day turnaround.
